NIA chargesheets four former PFI operatives for harbouring murder accused in Tamil Nadu

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) charge-sheeted four former members of the banned Islamic extremist group Popular Front of India (PFI) for harboring proclaimed offenders linked to a 2019 high-profile murder case, on June 6, 2026. The accused members, identified as K Mohideen, Mohamed Imran, Thameem Ansari, and Asmath, face charges under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for sheltering the individuals responsible for the crime. The case stems from the February 5, 2019, murder of Ramalingam, a  Pattali Makkal Katch (PMK) worker in Thirubhuvanam, located in the Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu, which occurred after he reportedly opposed attempts at religious conversion.

The NIA’s investigation revealed that the four charged PFI members knowingly sheltered two of the primary proclaimed offenders, Mohamed Burhanudeen and Mohamed Nabil Hassan, for nearly six years, despite being fully aware of their direct roles in the assassination conspiracy.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Mohali, Punjab, sentenced three people from Kashmir on June 04, 2026 for supporting the Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) terror group. UP ATS arrests man linked to Pakistan-backed terror network

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Mohammad Shaikh from Azamgarh District on June 1 for working with a Pakistan-backed terror network, recovering a 9 mm pistol, four live cartridges, and a mobile phone from his possession. Operating under Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), terror outfits, and Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti’s network. Two other Pakistan-based operatives were identified as Ajmal Gurjar and Raza Pakistani. This operation aimed to establish sleeper cells in India by grooming youths via social media for targeted missions, including the planned assassination of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.  Shaikh came under ATS scrutiny after investigators detected his alleged contact with foreign-based handlers through WhatsApp and social media accounts linked to Pakistani and Dubai-based mobile numbers. During the investigation, ATS officials found evidence suggesting that he had become deeply influenced by extremist propaganda and was actively communicating with members of the network.

According to the ATS, Shaikh was assigned a “trial mission” to demonstrate his commitment to the network. Following his arrest, a case was registered against Shaikh under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) claims responsibility for killing of Punjab Police personnel

An hitherto unknown pro-Taliban group calling itself the Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) has claimed responsibility for the killing of Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joga Singh, who was attacked in the Majitha area of Amritsar District.

A digital poster circulated on social media by the group’s alleged “Al-Burak squad” claimed involvement in the lethal assault. The message also issued direct threats of further attacks targeting Indian police, Army, and intelligence personnel. Strikingly, the same shadowy outfit had previously claimed responsibility for the killings of two police officers in Gurdaspur District earlier in 2026.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir, stated that security agencies are aggressively examining all possible dimensions of the case. Investigators are probing potential terror links, organized crime syndicates, and cross-border connections to identify the perpetrators.

While Punjab Police indicated that the technical authenticity of the online threat poster is still being verified, the incident has put security forces on high alert across the border state. Intelligence agencies are working alongside state police to track the digital footprint of the group and determine if TTH is a new proxy front for established militant outfits.

According to Indian intelligence agencies, gangster-turned-terrorist Shahzad Bhatti, operating from Pakistan, is the mastermind behind the propaganda and operations of this newly emerged TTH.

NIA details LeT/TRF handler Sajid Jatt’s role in Pahalgam attack network

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detailed the critical role played by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) handler Sajid Jatt in orchestrating the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. According to the agency’s supplementary charge sheet, Jatt utilized highly encrypted messaging applications and social media platforms to coordinate the strike. He directly shared the precise GPS coordinates of the Baisaran meadow in Anantnag district with the ground attackers. Digital forensic analysis and IP address traces successfully linked these communication accounts to operational hubs in Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The investigation exposed the brutal details of the massacre, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The attackers, armed with M4 carbines and AK-47 rifles, wore GoPro cameras to record the assault and systematically verified the religious identities of their victims before executing them. The NIA further revealed that this specific module was interconnected with earlier terror attacks in Ganderbal. The network relied heavily on cross-border logistics, utilizing drone drops for weapons supply and relying on sophisticated digital propaganda networks to sustain its operations. Investigations into the broader financial funding channels of the LeT/TRF network remain underway.

Gujarat CID crime arrested nine suspects, busted Hamas-linked Crypto terror network

The Cyber Centre of Excellence (CCoE) of Gujarat CID Crime has dismantled a major international financial syndicate linked to narcotics distribution and global terror financing, arresting nine individuals across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Haryana. The suspects have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act for criminal conspiracy, aiding terrorist operations, and waging war against a foreign state at peace with India.

Nine suspects were identified as Mohsin Sadiq Mohamed Molani Chhipa, Ejaz Aslamkhan Pathan, Mohammedzaid Abdulkaderbhai Siddi, Naved Ayubkhan Pathan, Faizahmed Nassaruddin Chishti, Salmankhan Habibkhan Pathan, and Gulam Sadiq Ibadullah Ansari (all from Ahmedabad, Gujarat), Zeeshan Siraj Motiwala (from Mumbai, Maharashtra) and Lovepreet Darshansingh Madharu (from Karnal, Haryana).

The investigation revealed a complex, multi-layered digital pipeline. Illicit proceeds generated from dark web narcotics sales and over 935 domestic cyber fraud cases were converted into anonymous cryptocurrencies like Monero and USDT. The syndicate laundered approximately ₹226 crore through international Hawala and crypto channels to evade law enforcement. The critical breakthrough came when investigators established direct links between the syndicate and global terrorist outfits. A cryptocurrency wallet belonging to an absconding accused, Mohammed Zuber Popatiya, had previously been frozen by Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF). The CCoE confirmed this wallet maintained direct transactional ties with the “Dubai Company for Exchange,” a known front for Hamas. Financial footprints also linked the network to other sanctioned entities, including Yemen’s Houthis and Iran’s IRGC-QF.

NIA Special Court Sentences Hamraz Worshid Shaikh to 7 Years RI in Taliban-TTP Radicalization Case

A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bengaluru has convicted and sentenced Hamraz Worshid Shaikh, a resident of Maharashtra, to seven years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a financial penalty. Shaikh was found guilty of radicalizing and recruiting vulnerable youth to promote the jihadi and terror activities of the proscribed terror outfits Taliban and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within India.  He has been convicted under various sections of IPC and UA (P) Act in the case RC-04/2023/NIA/DLI (TTP Case).

The NIA initially registered the case in April 2023, tracking an illicit network driven by Taliban and TTP ideologies. In October 2023, the agency filed a comprehensive chargesheet naming both Shaikh and his co-accused, Mohammad Arif. While Shaikh has been sentenced following his conviction, the trial against Mohammad Arif is currently ongoing. According to NIA investigations, Shaikh’s radicalization began during his stay in Saudi Arabia between 2019 and 2022, where he established contact with individuals from Pakistan and Afghanistan. The probe also uncovered the role of an online handler operating under the pseudonym “Hanzala,” who utilized an Instagram account named “Kashmir Pages” to facilitate the operation. Upon returning to India, Shaikh and Arif actively targeted vulnerable youth to expand their network. The duo formed a domestic terror cell with the ultimate objective of traveling to Afghanistan to join the TTP, aiming to wage jihad and war against India. With this conviction, law enforcement agencies have dealt a significant blow to the online recruitment and radicalization modules operating under foreign influence.

Pakistani LeT Terrorists arrested in J&K, plans to establish sleeper sells busted

Jammu and Kashmir security forces have thwarted a major cross-border terror plot following the arrest of a Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, identified as Mohammed Usman Jatt, alias ‘Chinese’. Jatt, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan, had infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) with a mandate to execute targeted terror attacks and establish strategic sleeper bases across North and Central Kashmir. The breakthrough came following an operation by the Srinagar Police, which resulted in the apprehension of Jatt alongside Abdullah, alias ‘Abu Hureira’, highly regarded by intelligence agencies as the longest-surviving LeT terrorist operating in the region.

Investigations revealed that the duo was explicitly tasked by their handlers with establishing sleeper cells outside J&K to expand the outfit’s operational footprint. Given the cross-border ramifications and gravity of the threat, the case has officially been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

LeT operative, gangster convicted in Gadkari extortion threat case

A Nagpur special court on Friday convicted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Afsar Pasha and jailed gangster Jayesh Pujari alias Shakir in the 2023 extortion threat case targeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

In January 2023, Gadkari’s staff at his Sitabuldi office in Nagpur received multiple calls threatening to blow up the office unless INR 100 crore was delivered in Karnataka. Investigators later traced the calls to Pujari, who was lodged in Hindalga Central Prison in Belagavi. The probe found that Pujari acted at the behest of Pasha, a LeT operative linked by investigators to the 2022 Mangaluru cooker blast case.

The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Anil Kumar Sharma, convicted both accused under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and UAPA, awarding rigorous imprisonment and fines.

The case has renewed concerns over the convergence between organised criminal gangs operating inside India and terrorist networks or handlers based outside the country. India’s National Investigation Agency has previously conducted multi-state searches as part of wider probes into the terrorist-gangster nexus.

NIA files chargesheet in November 2025 Red Fort car bomb blast case

On May 14, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) submitted a 7,500-page chargesheet against 10 suspects involved in the car bomb explosion in the Red Fort area, which resulted in 11 fatalities. The powerful Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) blast that shook the national capital on November 10, 2025 also injured several people and caused significant property damage in the vicinity. According to the chargesheet submitted before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House Courts in New Delhi, all ten accused, including the deceased terrorist Dr. Umer Un Nabi, were linked to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in Kashmir. The Ministry of Home Affairs had designated AQIS and its subsidiaries as a terrorist organization in June 2018. The NIA stated that its investigation, supported by detailed scientific and forensic analysis, revealed a ‘jihadi’ conspiracy. It found that several accused, including radicalized medical professionals, were influenced by AQIS/AGuH ideology to carry out the attack.

The NIA said that charges against Pulwama-based Dr. Umer Un Nabi, a former Assistant Professor of Medicine at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, have been proposed to be abated following his death. The other accused named in the chargesheet are Aamir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Soyab, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, and Yasir Ahmad Dar, the probe agency said. The chargesheet has been filed under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act, and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Government teacher among two arrested for aiding JeM terrorists in Kishtwar

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two alleged terror operatives, including a government school teacher, for providing logistical support to Jaish-e-Mohammad commander Saifullah Balochi and two other Pakistani terrorists in Kishtwar district.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mashkoor Ahmed, a government school teacher, and Maneer Ahmed. Police said they provided food, shelter and logistical assistance to the terrorists in the Chatroo area earlier this year. The three terrorists were later killed in a gunfight with security forces on February 22.

Mashkoor Ahmed, a resident of Beigpora Singhpora, Chatroo, served as a teacher at Primary School Gujrari in Inderwal zone. He was appointed as a Rehbar-e-Taleem teacher in 2004 and regularised in 2009. Kishtwar SSP Naresh Singh said the arrests were part of a decisive operation against elements aiding foreign terrorists. Police said the hilly terrain, dense forests and local sympathisers had allowed the Chatroo area to serve as a safe haven for terrorists in recent years.

NIA chargesheeted three for IS-linked ricin bioterror plot

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted three individuals, including a doctor, in an alleged Islamic State-linked conspiracy involving plans to carry out mass poisoning attacks using a biological toxin in public spaces.

The accused, Dr. Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin from Hyderabad, and Azad and Mohammad Suhel from Uttar Pradesh were charge sheeted before a special NIA court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. According to the agency, the trio operated under the guidance of foreign-based Islamic State handlers and allegedly sought to recruit radicalized youth to support jihadist activities and spread terror through prohibited weapons and bioterrorism methods. Investigators said the accused planned to use ricin, a highly toxic substance derived from castor seeds and listed under Schedule I of the Chemical Weapons Convention, as part of the conspiracy.

The case was initially registered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in November 2025 after Dr. Mohiuddin, an MBBS graduate from China, was arrested at a toll plaza while allegedly carrying illegal weapons, a bottle containing four liters of castor oil, and other incriminating materials in his vehicle.

NIA Court frames charges against LeT/ TRF handler and facilitators

On May 4, a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu ordered the framing of charges against a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba/The Resistance Front handler and two alleged local facilitators in connection with the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

The accused include Al Saifullah Jatt (also Langda), a Pakistan-based handler, along with Bashir Ahmad Jothad of Anantnag and Parvaiz Ahmad of Batkote, Pahalgam. The case pertains to RC No. 02/2025/NIA/JMU, linked to the Baisaran attack in Pahalgam. Mumbai Lone-Wolf attack probe: Maharashtra ATS finds ISIS notes after Hindu guards stabbed over religion

On April 28, Zaib Zuber Ansari, a 31-year-old suspected lone-wolf attacker, stabbed two Hindu security guards in Mumbai’s Mira Road. He allegedly asked their religion and forced one to recite the Islamic ‘Kalma’ (or Kalima: six basic declarations of faith in Islam). When the guards did not recite, Ansari attacked both with a sharp weapon, critically injuring Rajkumar Mishra and seriously wounding Subroto Ramesh Sen.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which has taken over the probe, found handwritten notes during a raid at Ansari’s residence that expressed his desire to join the Islamic State (ISIS). In the notes, he reportedly described the stabbing as his “first step” toward joining the terror group and referenced “jihad” and “Gaza.” Investigators believe Ansari, a science graduate who returned from the United States in 2019 and was living in isolation in Mira Road, was radicalized online through extremist content. Agencies are examining his mobile phone and laptop to determine possible links to ISIS handlers or cross-border extremist networks. He was arrested within 90 minutes of the attack after being identified through CCTV footage.

NIA court sentenced the accused in the Mangaluru cooker blast case to 10 years in prison

A special NIA court sentenced terror accused Mohammed Shariq to 10 years in prison for the Mangaluru cooker blast case. Shariq, who pleaded guilty, was charged under Sections 121A, 122, and 326 of the UAPA Act. His prior imprisonment will be credited against this sentence. He requested a reduction, citing family reasons. The second accused, Yasin, pleaded not guilty, and his trial continues. Both were produced via video from prison.

The blast occurred on November 19, 2022, near Kankanady, when the cooker bomb exploded prematurely, injuring Shariq and auto driver Poojary. Shariq, from Shivamogga, confessed to planning other blasts and vandalism. Initially pleading not guilty, he changed his stance in December 2025, after being charged in April 2024.

According to the NIA, Shariq is part of an Islamic State-inspired Shivamogga module connected to multiple terror-linked incidents since 2020. At the time of the blast, he was already wanted in a September 2022 Shivamogga case involving IED testing by the same module. He was arrested in 2020 for writing anti-national graffiti in Mangaluru. The module is also accused of the March 1, 2024, Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru, where investigators believe an IED similar to the one allegedly carried by Shariq was planted by founding member Mussavir Hussain, along with the now-arrested Abdul Matheen Taha.

Delhi Police, UP ATS bust ISI-Pakistan-Linked crime and terror module planning grenade attacks and targeted killings in India

Indian security agencies have uncovered a Pakistan-linked terror and crime network allegedly planning grenade blasts and targeted killings across Delhi-NCR and several cities in Uttar Pradesh, with multiple arrests made over the past week. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Special Cell of Delhi Police registered a case on March 31, 2026, after receiving leads about a conspiracy involving Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-linked crime and terror units plotting grenade attacks and assassinations in India. Investigators found links to Pakistan and Portugal-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti, described by officials as an ISI proxy, along with other cross-border handlers.

On April 16, Delhi Police arrested Vivek Banjara from Dabra in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district for his alleged connection to Shahzad Bhatti’s network. Further investigation led to the arrest of Rajveer who is also from Gwalior, from the Sarai Kale Khan area in Delhi on April 18.

According to Delhi police, the group planned shootings, grenade explosions, and targeted killings across Delhi-NCR. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi said the arrests helped prevent planned attacks in Delhi and surrounding areas. He added that the investigation exposed a wider conspiracy in which Bhatti and other ISI-linked handlers were recruiting youth through social media to carry out violence in India.

Separately, on April 22, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained two more operatives allegedly linked to Pakistan’s ISI Hizbullah Ali Khan (a suspected Hindu convert) from Meerut and Sameer Khan from Noida. The two were suspected of planning grenade attacks in multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. ATS officials said both suspects were radicalised through social media contacts with Pakistan-based crime leaders Shahzad Bhatti and Abid Jat. Preliminary investigations revealed a conspiracy to target specific individuals, backed by promised payments of ₹3 lakh, logistical support, and plans to facilitate their movement to Pakistan via Dubai. Investigators also found that the accused used encrypted communication channels to remain in contact with their handlers.

Hizbullah Ali Khan revealed that alleged ISI-connected operatives named ‘Major Hameed’, ‘Major Iqbal’, and ‘Major Anwar’ were supposed to assign targets. Sameer Khan also communicated with handlers through encrypted platforms and was responsible for propaganda work, such as writing slogans for ‘TTH’ (Tehrik-e-Taliban Hindustan) and recruiting young people.

In November 2025, Delhi Special Police Cell unearthed an international terror module linked to Shahzad Bhatti and Pakistan’s ISI. The suspects were involved in weapons trafficking and planning attacks across multiple states. Investigations reveal a coordinated network operating under Bhatti’s leadership, receiving directives from Pakistani handlers.  The arrested suspects have connections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, and were recruiting members through social media. Police continue probing the module’s activities, focusing on preventing future attacks and dismantling the terror network.

Officials believe the recent arrests have disrupted a larger interstate module involving criminal syndicates, radicalised youth, and Pakistan-based handlers working in coordination to execute terror-linked violence inside India.

NIA Court Sentences Seven in Bengaluru Prison Radicalisation Case

A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court on April 22 sentenced seven accused, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative and mastermind Thadiyantavide Nazeer (also T. Naseer), in the 2023 Bengaluru prison radicalization case linked to a terror conspiracy hatched inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

The convicted individuals, T. Naseer, Syed Suhail Khan, Mohammed Umar, Zahid Tabrez, Syed Mudassir Pasha, Mohammed Faisal Rabbani, and Salman Khan, were awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs 48,000 under various sections of the IPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act.

According to NIA, the accused had pleaded guilty to charges in case RC28/2023/NIA/DLI. Investigators found that Naseer, a life convict in multiple terror cases and an undertrial in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blast case, had orchestrated a LeT-linked conspiracy from inside prison involving the identification, recruitment, conversion, training, and radicalisation of vulnerable inmates to carry out terror attacks in India.

The case was initially registered by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch in July 2023 after arms, ammunition, and digital devices were seized from habitual offenders planning terror strikes in Bengaluru to advance LeT’s anti-India agenda.

After taking over the probe, the NIA uncovered a larger conspiracy aimed at facilitating Naseer’s escape while being transported from prison to court. The agency later chargesheeted 11 arrested accused and one absconder, Junaid Ahmed. One of the convicts, Salman Khan, was extradited from Rwanda through coordinated efforts between Indian and Rwandan agencies. Efforts are continuing to trace and arrest absconder Junaid Ahmed.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two individuals linked to the Ghazwa-e-Hind Jihadist plot

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested two Islamist extremists, Irfan Kalekhan Pathan and Murshid Zahid Akhtar Sheikh, for allegedly conspiring to carry out anti-national activities and wage war against the country by radicalizing individuals through social media. A local court remanded the two to 11 days of ATS custody. Irfan Kalekhan was arrested in Siddhpur, Patan District, Gujarat, and Murshid Zahid in Sakinaka, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Police said they were planning to create a terror network to wage Ghazwa-e-Hind (war against India) using RDX explosives, target political leaders linked to the right-wing group Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), “kafirs” (Hindus/non-believers), and impose Shariat (Islamic law) as part of the broader conspiracy. They also planned to recruit youth through social media to further their jihadist objectives. An examination of Irfan’s mobile phone showed he was in contact with people linked to the Islamic State (IS) and other radical individuals and groups via platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Irfan was allegedly planning to recruit “Mujahedeen” from different states, provide them with training in handling weapons and manufacturing explosives, including RDX bombs, and organize camps for such activities. Further investigation revealed Murshid’s involvement. According to officials, Murshid’s mobile phone also contained objectionable material and chats indicating his active involvement in the conspiracy alongside Pathan.

Mumbai special court rejects bail plea of Popular Front of India (PFI) operative

Mumbai special court rejected the bail application of Mohammed Iqbal Khan on April 21. Iqbal Khan was detained by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in 2022. The court noted that members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) were promoting ‘radical ideology’. Khan faced charges under the anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Although the agency has not formally charged him under terrorism-specific sections, the court indicated that there is a prima facie case against him for those offenses. The ATS also alleged that Khan and other accused possessed objectionable literature, including plans for the expansion of the organization and establishing a ‘rule of Islam’ in India by 2047.

In early February 2023, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) filed a chargesheet against five office-bearers of the banned PFI for alleged involvement in unlawful activities and waging war against the nation. The accused, including Mazhar Khan, Sadiq Shaikh, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Momin Mistry, and Aasif Hussain Khan, were arrested by the Mumbai unit of the ATS during nationwide multi-agency raids led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in September 2022. They were among 20 people arrested in Maharashtra as part of a larger crackdown in which over 100 PFI leaders and activists were detained across several states for allegedly supporting terrorist activities. The Indian government later banned PFI and its affiliates for five years, citing alleged links with global terrorist groups such as ISIS.

NIA Court Sentences IS Operative in 2022 Shivamogga Terror Conspiracy Case

A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru on April 20 sentenced Arafath Ali to six years of rigorous imprisonment in the 2022 Shivamogga Islamic State (IS) terror conspiracy case, marking the third conviction in the case. According to the NIA, Arafath Ali was an active IS operative involved in spreading the group’s violent ideology, radicalising and recruiting vulnerable youth into the Shivamogga terror module in Karnataka. Investigators found that he also incited co-accused to paint inflammatory graffiti in Mangaluru in support of IS and other terror groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with the aim of triggering communal unrest.

The probe further revealed that Arafath Ali was in contact with an online IS handler and served as a funding channel for the module, receiving terror funds via cryptocurrency and distributing them among the co-accused. The case was originally registered by the Karnataka Police in September 2022. NIA arrested Arafath Ali, upon his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi in September 2023. The court had previously sentenced two other accused, Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yaseen, in November 2025 to six years of rigorous imprisonment.

After taking over the investigation, the NIA arrested 10 additional accused, in addition to the two initially held by state police, and later charge sheeted all 12. While three accused have now been convicted, the trial against the remaining nine is ongoing.

Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad interrogation of four terror operatives reveals plan for subversive activities

The Anti-Terrorist Squad’s interrogation of four suspected terror operatives arrested in early April 2026 revealed plans for a large-scale attack in the country. They were reportedly working under the guidance of handlers based in Pakistan. The individuals, identified as Saqib, Arbaab, Lokesh, and Vikas, all residents of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody in Lucknow on April 2. Investigators said the suspects were in regular contact with Pakistani handlers and plotting activities against the nation. During the investigation, ATS officials found important evidence on their mobile phones, including WhatsApp chats, audio recordings, and location data. This evidence showed that the accused had surveyed various sites in Ghaziabad, including the Hindu Raksha Dal office in Sahibabad and the Delhi-6 Mall in Rajnagar Extension.

The suspects recorded videos and photos of sites, sharing them with Pakistan based handlers. They received Rs 13,000 for reconnaissance, transferred via a QR code from Vikas through a relative’s bank. The probe revealed they also surveyed a car showroom in Aligarh for arson and shared videos of trucks in Ghaziabad. Authorities seized 24 pamphlets in Hindi and Urdu, threatening to continue their mission and indicating future plans. Investigators believe the pamphlets were meant to be left at attack sites. Suspects were in a WhatsApp group called “Muslim Army” with Pakistani handlers.

SIA Kashmir Files Chargesheet Against 10 in ‘Doctors Terror Module’ Case Linked to Delhi Suicide Blast

The State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, filed a chargesheet against 10 people, including the slain doctor Dr. Umar Un Nabi, in a major terror conspiracy case at Nowgam police station in Srinagar. The case, dubbed the “Doctors Terror Module,” surfaced after provocative Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) posters appeared in Srinagar’s Nowgam area. Investigations revealed that the accused used JeM’s name to mislead the investigation while covertly working to revive the banned Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), an Al Qaeda-linked terror group. According to the SIA, the highly educated militant module involving medical professionals misused institutional access for radicalization, recruitment, and operational preparations for terror attacks across India. They disseminated extremist propaganda online and experimented with explosive fabrication, including the accumulation of Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP) precursors within residential premises and facilities linked to Al-Falah Medical College/University. The scale of explosive materials recovered has raised serious security concerns nationwide.

The chargesheeted accused include: Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir Ul Ashraf Bhat, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar (all from Bunpora Nowgam, Srinagar); Irfan Ahmad Wagay from Nadigam, Shopian; Zameer Ahmad Ahanger from Wakoora, Ganderbal; Dr. Muzamil Shakeel Ganaie of Koil, Pulwama; Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather of Wanpora Qazigund, Kulgam; Dr. Shaheen Saeed from Lalbagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; Tufail Ahmad Bhat of Diarwani, Batmaloo; and the deceased suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Un Nabi, from Koil, Pulwama, who was killed in the Red Fort suicide attack in Delhi last November.

In late March 2026, the NIA launched coordinated raids across 9 locations in J&K, targeting the logistical and financial networks behind the Red Fort attack. The agency searched premises in Srinagar, Baramulla, Kulgam, and Handwara, including a local businessman’s residence. It is systematically dismantling a highly sophisticated terror module that has already resulted in 11 arrests, including radicalized white-collar professionals.

The SIA stated that a meticulous investigation, supported by recoveries, digital forensics, scientific analysis, and witness accounts, has established a strong prima facie case and dismantled the network and its support structure. The agency highlighted the evolving threat posed by sophisticated “white-collar” terror modules that misuse professional settings and digital platforms and called for sustained vigilance.  The case was triggered by posters intended to disturb public order and challenge India’s sovereignty, which were part of a larger conspiracy.

NIA Special Court sentences three operatives of Al-Qaeda-Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind Terror conspiracy case

On April 13, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced three terrorists identified as Museeruddin, and Minhaj Ahmad of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Tawheed Ahmad Shah, hailing from district Budgam of Jammu and Kashmir. All three have been convicted and sentenced under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Arms Act. The special court on Monday pronounced varying jail terms, ranging from 5 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to life imprisonment, against these accused.

Three other accused, namely Shakeel, Mohmmed Mustaqeem and Mohammad Moid (all residents of Lucknow), were convicted earlier in this case (RC-02/2021/NIA/LKW) after they had pleaded guilty in October-November 2025. These terror operatives are associated with the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind module linked to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Investigating agencies stated that they were planning serial blasts, including a suicide explosion in Uttar Pradesh around August 15, 2021. During interrogation, it emerged that these accused were acting on the instructions of Umar Halmandi, a handler of AQIS who was actively involved in recruitment and strengthening the terror network in India. They conspired to carry out attacks aimed at causing mass casualties, with investigations indicating intent to target areas associated with Hindu populations during the Independence Day celebrations.

Jammu and Kashmir Police Detain Multiple LeT Suspects Across States

A major inter-state network linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been uncovered by Jammu and Kashmir Police, with several detentions made in Haryana and Rajasthan for allegedly facilitating forged identities and documents for terrorists. The operation began on March 31, 2026, when Srinagar Police arrested Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat from Pandach with a pistol and incriminating material. During interrogation, Bhat confessed to being part of LeT and led investigators to associates Adil Rashid Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias “Mama,” both accused of providing shelter, logistics, and arms support to foreign terrorists. Subsequent raids uncovered multiple hideouts in forested areas around Srinagar, along with weapons including AK-47 rifles, an AK-Krinkov, pistols, grenades, and electronic equipment.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of five individuals, including two Pakistani nationals, Abdullah alias Abu Hureira and Usman alias Khubaib, both categorised as ‘A+’ militants who had infiltrated India around 16 years ago and operated across Kashmir, reportedly commanding dozens of foreign terrorists over time. Interrogation of Abdullah revealed extensive inter-state linkages, particularly in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, and exposed a network involved in procuring forged Aadhaar, PAN, voter cards, and passports. One key operative, Umar alias “Kharghosh,” a Karachi resident who infiltrated India after 2012, used a forged passport obtained in Jaipur to flee to Indonesia in 2024 and is believed to have moved onward to a Gulf country using another fake identity.

Officials said the module used fake identities to establish operational networks beyond Jammu and Kashmir, with reconnaissance, financial flows, and logistical chains spanning multiple states. The operation, monitored by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, has also revealed funding patterns of LeT’s interstate activities. This crackdown follows the dismantling of a “white-collar” terror module linked to the November 2025 Red Fort blast, involving radicalised professionals, including a key accused from Al Falah University.

Uttar Pradesh Police arrest two over links with Pakistan-backed terror module in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Police recently detained Owiad Malik and Jalal Ahmad, who are suspected of links to a Pakistan-backed terror group in Bijnor. This case is connected to the April 03 arrests in Lucknow, where four individuals, Saqib, Arbaab, Vikas Gehlawat, and Lokesh Pandit, were held for allegedly planning anti-national activities. The accused conducted reconnaissance in cities including Ghaziabad, Aligarh, and Lucknow, and shared videos and location details with their handlers. On April 2, the group reportedly planned to carry out arson and possible explosions near railway signaling infrastructure near Lucknow railway station. Amitabh Yash, the Additional Director General of Law & Order, confirmed that the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) for Maijul, a Bijnor native believed to be in South Africa, and for Azad, who is suspected to be in Dubai.

Authorities believe that Aqib, Maijul, and Azad are actively involved in online radicalization efforts and recruiting young people from western Uttar Pradesh through encrypted apps like Telegram and other social media platforms. Reports suggest that the person behind these activities is currently in Saudi Arabia and has been contacting individuals online.

Suspected extremist Sayeeda Begum arrested for role in an interstate radicalization network

The Andhra Pradesh Police arrested Sayeeda Begum (38), a social media user from Hyderabad, for her alleged role in an interstate terror network involved in online radicalisation and recruitment. Police said Begum, with about 38,000 Instagram followers, was detained on March 25 by Vijayawada Police. Investigations show she was linked to a network intending to recruit and radicalise individuals, mainly women, across Indian states. Early findings suggest the group planned to create a women’s unit called “Khawateen,” with Begum as a key organizer. The group aimed to train recruits in the use of firearms and explosives for attacks.

Police sources, cited in media reports, claim that Begum may have recruited up to 42 women into the network, though these figures remain unverified as part of the ongoing investigation. According to the FIR (First Information Report), Begum was active in multiple online groups that circulated extremist propaganda, including videos linked to Osama bin Laden and speeches by controversial preachers such as Zakir Naik and Israr Ahmed. The groups also allegedly disseminated content associated with extremist organizations such as the Islamic State and al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent. Intelligence inputs further suggest that the module had links to Pakistan-based handlers and that Begum was operating alongside Rahmatullah Sharif, identified as the prime accused and coordinator of the network. Several associates linked to the module were also arrested in March.

Sayeeda Begum, a resident of Chanchalguda, Hyderabad, was arrested in connection with Crime No. 98/2026, which involves serious charges under the BNS, UAPA, and the IT Act. This case highlights how digital platforms are increasingly being used to promote decentralized radicalization and recruitment, especially through targeted outreach towards different genders. Authorities are still investigating the case, working to gather more forensic and intelligence information to understand the full scope of the situation.

Pakistan-Backed Terror Module Busted in Uttar Pradesh; Four Arrested

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested four people for running a Pakistan-backed terror network and planning arson attacks targeting railway infrastructure and other key sites across the state. According to ATS officials, the group was in regular contact with Pakistan-based handlers via encrypted and social media platforms like Telegram, Signal, and Instagram. The handlers reportedly circulating content under names such as “Osama bin Laden”, “Farhatullah Gori”, “Kashmir Mujahideen”, and “Ghazwa-e-Hind”. Also, they assigned these arrested people to carry out disruptive acts designed to create panic and economic damage. Investigations identified Saqib, also known as “Devil,” a resident of Meerut, as the alleged leader of the network. He is accused of coordinating with cross-border handlers and maintaining links with radical groups, including contacts in Afghanistan. The group conducted surveillance of critical infrastructure, political figures, railway signaling systems, and vehicles. They also allegedly planned to damage railway signal boxes, set fire to trucks loaded with gas cylinders, and target prominent establishments. Officials said the accused shared videos of minor arson incidents with handlers to receive financial incentives.

The other accused has been identified as Arbaab from Meerut, along with Vikas Gehlawat and Lokesh, both from Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Police said the latter two were recruited through social media and were involved in reconnaissance activities in Ghaziabad, Aligarh, and Lucknow.  A case has been registered at the ATS police station in Lucknow under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Delhi Police arrest Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Shabbir Ahmed Lone

On March 30, the Delhi Police Special Cell confirmed the arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Shabbir Ahmed Lone near the Bangladesh border. The arrest followed a two-month multi-state intelligence operation led and monitored by Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, Additional Commissioner Pramod Kushwaha, and their team. Lone was running a terror module from a hideout near Dhaka and had been recruiting youths for activities in Delhi, Kolkata, and Tamil Nadu.

Lone, from Kangan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, was first arrested in 2007 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, serving six years before release in 2013. In 2016, he was re-arrested with Sajjad Gul under the Arms Act. After bail in 2019, he fled to Bangladesh, reconnecting with terror handlers and building a cross-border network. Educated up to Class 8 and madrasa-trained in Batmalu, Lone was recruited into LeT around 2004–05 by Huzaifa. By 2025, he was tasked with expanding recruitment beyond Jammu and Kashmir to other Indian states and Bangladesh. Investigations indicate that Lone reconnected with Huzaifa via Telegram in 2016 and began radicalising and recruiting youth. He was later introduced to Pakistan-based LeT commander Sumama alias Babar alias Iliyas, who played a central role in guiding recruitment, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.

In 2025, Lone was tasked with recruiting Bangladeshi nationals and individuals from across India. He then traveled through Delhi and, with Umar Faruk’s help, crossed into Bangladesh, where he recruited at least seven people. On February 8, 2026, pro-Pakistan and pro-terror posters appeared at Janpath and several Delhi Metro stations. The posters praised militant Burhan Wani and included slogans like “India Stop Genocide & Free Kashmir” and “Hum Pakistani Hain, Pakistan Hamara Hai.” On February 22, coordinated raids in Kolkata (West Bengal) and Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu) resulted in the arrest of eight operatives, seven of whom are Bangladeshi nationals with fake Indian IDs. Investigators reported that the group was advanced in planning attacks on major targets. Data recovered included photos and coordinates of a temple in New Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. The suspects reportedly recorded themselves placing the posters and sent the footage to handlers in Bangladesh as proof they carried out the task.

Technical surveillance tracked the suspects’ movement from Delhi to Kolkata via Patna, enabling targeted raids. Investigators assert that Lone, also known as Raja Kashmiri, received advanced training in ‘Daura-e-Aam’ and ‘Daura-e-Khas’ in Muzaffarabad and maintained ties with senior LeT leaders, including Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Officials further allege that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) facilitated funding channels supporting recruitment among illegal Bangladeshi migrants in India, who were seen as low-profile operatives for covert network-building.

NIA seeks 45-day extension in Delhi blast investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested a 45-day extension from a special court in Delhi in the blast case near Lal Qila Metro Station on November 10, 2025. They cite new evidence of a complex terror plot with national and international connections and a broader network that needs further forensic analysis and verification.

The NIA’s plea to the Special Court at Patiala House Courts in Delhi underscores the investigation’s crucial stage, citing recent witness statements and confessions from those arrested. Searches in Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the seizure of digital devices, and approximately 5 terabytes of data are currently under review. Additionally, WhatsApp links to the banned group Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind indicate broader connections across Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The application concerns several arrested accused individuals, such as Amir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Muzamil Shakeel Ganie, Adeel Ahmad Rather, Shaheen Saeed, and Soyab, whose custody periods are approaching expiration.

Several Youths Radicalized by ISIS and AQIS were arrested across India as police busted the ‘Vijayawada Terror Module’ in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Police have detained three local youths in Vijayawada on suspicion of their links to banned terrorist groups Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The arrests were made by the Intelligence Wing of the NTR Commissionerate. The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Rehmatulla Sharif, a resident of Wynchipet and an app-based ride-share driver; Md. Danish, an engineering dropout working at a garage in Auto Nagar; and Mirza Sohail Baig, from Mahanthipuram, who was employed as a cashier at a biryani shop and a daily wage worker. Police reports suggest that the three appeared to live normal lives while allegedly engaging in secret extremist activities.

Police investigations revealed that these youths were radicalized through social media platforms, where they viewed and shared propaganda from ISIS and AQIS. They reportedly maintained contacts with terror handlers across multiple states, including Hyderabad, Bihar, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Delhi, and planned to participate in “jihadi activities” and promote the creation of an Islamic governing system (Khilafat) in India. Some reports also mention suspected funding links from Pakistan-based handlers and the formation of a group called “Al Malik Islamic Youth” to radicalize others. The three were also reportedly working toward the goal of Ghazwa-e-Hind (war against India) and had expanded their network across several states by coordinating with operatives in different regions.

Several teams were formed and dispatched to Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, and Rajasthan, leading to the detention of 12 suspects connected to extremist groups, including three from Andhra. Preliminary investigations indicate that Rehmatullah was influenced by hate speeches from international terrorist leaders and actively shared extremist content on social media. He established contact with a foreign handler known as Al-Hakeem Shukur through social media, and following his instructions, collaborated with Shadman Dilkush from Bihar and Saida Begum from Hyderabad. Rehmatullah also connected with individuals linked to the ISIS-associated “Benex Com” group, including Ajmanullah Khan (Bihar), Lucky Ahmed (Delhi), Mir Asif Ali (West Bengal), Zeeshan (Rajasthan), Abdul Salam (Karnataka), Shah Rukh Khan, and Shiyak Piyaz ur Rehman (Maharashtra).

A case has been registered under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and other relevant laws at the Two Town Police Station. The arrested individuals were brought before a local court and remanded in judicial custody until April 6, 2026.

Asiya Andrabi of Dukhtaran-e-Millat and two associates sentenced in Kashmir secessionism case

On March 24, a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sentenced three women operatives of the banned Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) to prison in connection with a 2018 Kashmir secession conspiracy case, according to NIA reports. Asiya Andrabi, the founder and chairperson of DeM, received a life sentence, while her associates Sofi Fehmeeda, press secretary of DeM, and Nahida Nasreen, general secretary of DeM, were each sentenced to 30 years. The investigation revealed that the accused promoted DeM’s secessionist agenda through speeches, social media, and public platforms, inciting violence and jihad, thereby threatening India’s sovereignty, security, and integrity.

They were apprehended in July 2018 and formally charged following a comprehensive review of evidence, including videos, chat transcripts, and media interviews. While Sofi Fehmeeda has eight additional cases registered against her, Nahida Nasreen has four.

DeM is an all-women organization with the declared goal of achieving Kashmir’s secession from India. The accused, all from Kashmir, were previously, in January 2026, convicted by the trial court at Karkardooma, Delhi, under sections 18, 38, and 39 of the UA(P) Act and sections 153A, 153B, 120B, 121A, and 505 IPC. The court found the three accused guilty of actively operating DeM to promote the separation of Jammu and Kashmir from the Union of India.

Based on the NIA’s plea, Special Judge Chakor Baviskar issued the proclamation against these three, 12 years after they allegedly left India to join the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group. They are required to appear within a month, or they will be declared proclaimed offenders, which could lead to property confiscation under court orders. Areeb Majeed remains the only arrested accused who has returned to India and faces multiple terror charges. He was one of the four people (including the three mentioned above) who traveled to Syria to join IS and returned to India to carry out terror activities. Maharashtra Police Arrest Ayan Sheikh for Suspected Links with Transnational Terror Groups, Promoting Online Radicalization and Recruitment

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested Ayan Yusuf Sheikh on suspicion of links to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Islamic State (IS) in Mumbai on March 02, 2026. Sheikh was charged under Sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with Sections 152, 196, and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Based on intelligence reports about online radicalization, ATS conducted raids in Kurla, Govandi, and Shivaji Nagar, seizing a laptop and a mobile phone. Initial forensic analysis found extremist propaganda, including audio and video clips associated with JeM chief Masood Azhar. Sheikh allegedly circulated propaganda via encrypted platforms like Telegram, attempted to recruit individuals, and added two engineering students to extremist groups.

According to ATS officials, the investigation revealed that Ayan had been attempting to influence several youths in his circle, especially two of his classmates who were also close friends. During questioning, investigators discovered that these two students had been heavily influenced by Ayan’s views. Sources said he had allegedly brainwashed them over time, encouraging them to consider traveling abroad to participate in terror-related activities. The plan, however, was stopped before it could progress after the ATS uncovered the alleged radicalization efforts. Investigations are ongoing to identify financial connections and possible contacts with foreign handlers.

Mumbai Court Upholds Conviction of 7/11 Blasts Acquitted Accused for SIMI Links

A sessions court in Mumbai has upheld the 2016 conviction of Ehtesham Qutubuddin Siddiqui, one of the accused earlier acquitted in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts, for his alleged association with the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). According to media reports on 5 March, the court confirmed the seven-year sentence awarded to Siddiqui by an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in 2016 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The conviction related to the publication and distribution of SIMI-linked literature before his arrest in September 2006.

Siddiqui, now 43, was previously convicted in connection with the July 11, 2006, Mumbai suburban train blasts, which killed over 180 people and injured hundreds. However, in July 2025, the Bombay High Court acquitted Siddiqui and 11 other accused in the blasts case, citing insufficient evidence after they had spent nearly 19 years in prison. Despite the acquittal in the bombing case, the sessions court has now upheld the earlier conviction related to SIMI activities. The court noted that the books and materials seized from Siddiqui’s house in Mira Road were being used by SIMI members “to create religious disharmony amongst people.” The books seized by the ATS included Urdu and Hindi titles such as Jihadi-Fi-Sabiullah, Jihadi Azgar, Islam ki Rooh, Tehrik-e-Millat-Atankwad Ka Jimmedar Kau, and SIMI Sangharsh Yatra Ke Pacchis Varsh. He was accused of being a SIMI member despite the ban on the group since 2001 and of publishing articles “to provoke people so that it will help in the commission of terrorists’ acts.” Legal proceedings related to the case have focused on the possession and dissemination of literature associated with the banned group, separate from the allegations in the train blast conspiracy.

NIA Seeks China’s Assistance to Trace Camera Used in Pahalgam Terror Attack

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has approached Chinese authorities through a Letter Rogatory (LR) to obtain details about a GoPro camera allegedly used in the Pahalgam terror attack that targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. Investigators are attempting to trace the purchase and ownership of a GoPro Hero 12 Black (Serial No. C3501325471706), believed to have been used by the attackers for reconnaissance and recording operational preparations before the strike at Baisaran Meadow near Pahalgam in Anantnag district.

The attack on April 22, 2025, killed 25 tourists and a pony operator, making it one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in recent years. NIA said the device could help reconstruct the movement, surveillance patterns, and logistical planning of the terrorist module responsible for the attack. In response to NIA queries, GoPro B.V. in the Netherlands informed the agency that the camera had been supplied to AE Group International Ltd, a distributor based in China. Records show that the device was activated on January 30, 2024, in Dongguan, People’s Republic of China. However, the manufacturer indicated that it does not maintain downstream transaction records or end-user data, prompting the NIA to seek assistance from Chinese authorities to identify the purchaser and obtain related technical and transactional information.

The Jammu District Court has authorized the issuance of the Letter Rogatory, allowing investigators to formally request cooperation from China in tracing the device. The Pahalgam attack was carried out by three militants: Suleiman Shah, Hamza Afghani alias Afghan, and Jibran, who were later killed by security forces during an operation in the Dachigam forest area on July 28, 2025. NIA officials believe that tracing the camera’s ownership and usage history could provide more insights into the planning and support networks behind the deadliest jihadi terror attack in recent history.

Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested Altamash Faridi in Amroha for financing terrorism

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Altamash Faridi, a key accused in an ongoing investigation into a suspected terror-funding and radicalization network with international links, from Amroha District of UP. Altamash was attempting to flee to Nepal when arrested.

Earlier, on November 7, 2025, ATS arrested another member, Farhan Nabi Siddiqui, from Kasna in Gautam Buddh Nagar District of UP. Siddiqui was alleged to be a co-founder of Istanbul International Pvt Ltd and a central figure in the network. Investigators revealed that Altamash and Farhan, along with foreign associates, established a digital platform in Turkey to mobilize funds from foreign nationals. The funds, estimated at over INR 11 crore, were suspected of being routed through hawala (illegal money-laundering) channels and layered into multiple bank accounts linked to firms such as Istanbul International Pvt Ltd and other entities.

In a statement in November last year, the UP ATS said that Siddiqui, along with Turkish national Nasi Torba and others, operated three companies, Istanbul International Private Limited, Hakikat Wakfi Foundation, and Real Global Express Logistics Private Limited.

Through these companies, the Hakikat Printing Publications in Greater Noida was printing religious books whose content was deemed to incite hostility and violence. The ATS also said that these three companies were housing people from Turkey and Germany without any government notification and were providing refuge to Bangladeshis living illegally in India.

A total of 12 books in Hindi, Arabic, and Bengali, two mobile phones, and three laptops were also recovered from Siddiqui at that time. Nasi Torba, is believed to have played a crucial role in introducing Siddiqui to the network in late 2022. Officials said Torba, who is currently absconding, is being tracked.

JeM “Israel Group” cell dismantled in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir after months long operation

Security forces dismantled a seven-member terrorist module of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), known as ‘Israel Group’, operating in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir, concluding an intelligence-led operation that spanned nearly 18 months. The ‘Israel Group’ had infiltrated into Indian territory from Pakistan in April 2024.

According to Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Bhim Sen Tuti, the module was engaged 17 times by security forces after crossing the Line of Control (LoC) and had remained a high-priority target. The final three members of the group, including its self-styled commander Saifullah, were killed on February 22 during a joint operation in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar.

The encounter marked the end of a sustained pursuit involving multiple security agencies. The counter-terror campaign intensified in early 2026 following fresh Intelligence inputs from police and Intelligence agencies. On January 18, security forces located and destroyed a well-stocked hideout used by the remaining militants. On February 4, a member codenamed Adil was killed during ongoing operations. The final phase began on the night of February 21–22, when security forces cordoned off a remote mountain shelter, known as a “dhok” (hut), where the remaining terrorists had taken refuge.

Officials said the broader offensive over the past several days dealt a significant blow to militant infrastructure in the Jammu region. Six terrorists were killed during this period, including two in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh under Operation Kiya and another in Kishtwar during Operation Trashi-I on 4 February.

Earlier, in April 2025, three members of the same module had been eliminated in initial operations, leaving four, including Saifullah who continued to evade capture until the latest phase. The operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force under the White Knight Corps.

Eight suspected terrorists were arrested in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal for plotting attacks in India

The Delhi Police has taken into custody eight suspects from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on suspicion of plotting a terrorist conspiracy, allegedly supported by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and Bangladeshi terrorist groups. Among those arrested, including several Bangladeshi nationals are suspects caught at garment factories in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district. A joint police team investigating the case recovered eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards for analysis as digital evidence.

The suspects identified as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal, are in custody, with two more apprehended in West Bengal, totalling eight. Evidence shows they used fake Aadhaar cards to hide their identities and posted social media content supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba and Pakistan. The conspiracy was uncovered after provocative messages like “Free Kashmir” and ‘Stop Genocide in Kashmir” appeared at over 10 locations, including metro stations in Delhi and Kolkata, last week. This follows reports from security sources on February 21, indicating Lashkar-e-Taiba’s plans to detonate bombs near Delhi’s Red Fort and key religious sites, including a temple in Chandni Chowk, possibly involving IEDs.

NIA chargesheets two more people in Vizianagaram Islamic State terror conspiracy case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted two more accused in the 2025 Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh) Islamic State (IS) terror conspiracy case. In a supplementary chargesheet filed before the Special Court in Visakhapatnam, the NIA has charged Arif Hussain, (alias Abu Talib), and Imran Akram in the 2025 Vizianagaram Islamic State (IS) terror conspiracy case under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), BNS, the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and the Arms Act. The case was initially registered at the Vizianagaram Police Station, and the accused, Siraz Ur Rahiman and Syed Sameer, were apprehended.

The NIA chargesheeted these two in November 2025, soon after taking over the investigation. During the investigation, the NIA found that Imran Akram, who is still absconding, had provided terror funding to Siraz Ur Rahiman and Syed Sameer for the procurement of explosive materials. Arif was arrested by NIA officials on August 27, 2025, while attempting to flee the country from New Delhi Airport. Investigations revealed that Arif Hussain, a native of Bihar, had also conspired with Siraz to supply weapons for carrying out terrorist acts. White-collar‘ terror probe: Radicalised Doctors formed ’Ansar Interim’ to carry out attacks in J&K and beyond

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police uncovered the ‘white-collar’ terror module in which radicalised doctors formed a group named “Ansar Interim” to carry out subversive activities in J&K and the hinterland. The case is currently under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The accused Muzamil Gannie, Umer-un-Nabi (died in Delhi’s Red Fort blast on November 10, 2025), Adeel Rather, Muzzafar Rather (absconding), Maulvi Irfan, Qari Aamir, and Tufail Gazi met in Srinagar in April 2022 and organized the group with specific roles. Adeel was named the ‘Ameer’ (chief) of the group, Maulvi Irfan as ‘Deputy Ameer’, and Gannie as treasurer.

The arrested individuals told the interrogators that they formed the new group because all their contacts with active terrorists had been severed. Umer became the coordinator while Gannie handled the finances and procurement.

Police investigations into the case have revealed the procurement of fertiliser and chemicals from Haryana for the manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), including Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP). Umer planned a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) attack, which resulted in a premature explosion outside the Red Fort, New Delhi.

Delhi Court extends custody of Al Falah University chairman in Red Fort car bomb attack

A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui, Chairman of Al Falah University, by 14 days in connection with an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the November 2025 Red Fort terrorist attack case which killed at least 15 people.

Investigating agencies believe that the attack was carried out by operatives who were working as doctors at Al Falah University. Just hours before the blast, authorities had taken into custody large quantities of explosives from the university’s campus in Faridabad, Haryana. Investigators have described the campus as a crucial part of the alleged conspiracy. During the hearing, the court also responded to a plea from Siddiqui, asking for copies of documents related to the prosecution complaint, including everything used in the chargesheet to help him prepare his defense. The court acknowledged the plea and asked the agency for their reply.

Siddiqui was arrested in November of last year as part of the ED’s money laundering investigation tied to the terror case. UN Report links Jaish-e-Mohammed to 2025 Red Fort blast

A United Nations sanctions monitoring report has established a link between Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and multiple attacks within India, including the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on 10 October 2025. These findings are incorporated in the 37th report of the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, submitted pursuant to Resolution 2734 (2024) to the Security Council’s 1267 Sanctions Committee, which supervises measures against ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida, and related entities. The report was officially released on 4 February 2026.

According to the report, JeM chief Masood Azhar announced the formation of a women-only wing, Jamaat ul-Momminat, on 8 October 2025. Although the unit is not separately listed by the UN, the monitoring team described it as intended to support terrorist activities. The report also noted broader organizational developments within JeM. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the findings reflect India’s concerns about cross-border terrorism. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India had noted the publication of the 37th report and had incorporated India’s inputs on the need to strengthen the global fight against terrorism. The UN document is available in the public domain, and the matter remains under international review through the sanctions monitoring mechanism.

NIA has charged Abubakar Siddique in connection with the recovery of explosives in Andhra Pradesh in 2025

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against Shaik Amanulla alias Abubakar Siddique before the NIA Special Court in Vijayawada, in connection with a 2025 explosives recovery case in Andhra Pradesh. The accused Siddique has been charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and the Arms Act.

According to the NIA, Siddique had been living in Rayachoty town in Annamayya district under the assumed identity of Shaik Amanulla, using forged documents since absconding from Tamil Nadu in 1999. He is reportedly wanted in 14 criminal cases in Tamil Nadu. He was initially arrested by Tamil Nadu Police on 1 July 2025 after being identified as the absconding accused. In August 2025, Andhra Pradesh Police arrested him in the explosives seizure case, which was later taken over by the NIA. Investigators reportedly said that Siddique was in possession of illegal explosive substances and prohibited arms intended for terrorist acts at the time of his arrest. He was also engaged in target selection, radicalisation and recruitment of youth, and training them in the preparation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

His past cases in Tamil Nadu reportedly include the sending of parcel bombs in 1995, planting bombs at five locations across three cities in 1999, carrying explosives illegally on a train in 1999, harbouring absconders in terror-related cases over three decades, planting a bomb during a prominent leader’s rath yatra in 2011, and involvement in the killings of several political leaders during 2012–13. The NIA stated that further investigation in the Andhra Pradesh case is ongoing.

ATS conducted searches in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh following the arrest of Faizan Shakeel Salmani

A joint team of the Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) conducted searches and questioning in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, following the arrest of 22-year-old Faizan Shakeel Salmani on terrorism-related charges.

Salmani, a native of Dudwala village in Rampur and a resident of the Charpul area in Navsari district, Gujarat, was arrested by the Gujarat ATS on 25 January. Agencies are currently investigating his alleged links with the banned organisations Jaish-e-Mohammed and al-Qaeda jihadist groups. According to officials, Salmani had reportedly prepared a list of seven individuals he intended to target, including prominent Hindu figures from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. As part of the follow-up investigation, ATS teams visited the Swar area of Rampur to question associates and gather background information. They inspected a local madrasa where Salmani had studied and questioned Maulana Qari Iqbal Ahmad regarding his conduct and possible signs of ideological radicalisation. Officers also visited a coaching centre in Swar and spoke with its operator, Akhtar.

ATS Officials said the inquiry aims to assess Salmani’s extremist ideological leanings, local connections, and the extent of any wider international network. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities reviewing digital and communication records. His Instagram account with the handle ‘al.faizangaza. (al.Faizan-Gaza)’ is under scanner.

Intel reported that AQIS established hit squads hit squads in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh

Intelligence agencies reported that al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) has shifted its strategy from targeting high-profile individuals to focusing on civilian populations, establishing hit squads in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

It has been learned that module members, during their online discussions, decided to target ordinary citizens, as such targets are considered easier to attack due to their lack of security measures, unlike high-profile individuals. An official stated that AQIS comprises multiple modules, each directed by senior leadership to conduct extensive operations. Authorities also indicated that AQIS has captured photographs of random individuals across various states, which have circulated within the network; this emerging trend poses significant risks.

The images include the locations of the individuals, thereby facilitating easier targeting. No specific person has been designated to execute these attacks. Furthermore, AQIS has been actively scouting for members of the PFI, who remain underground due to the recent ban. Members involved in hit or dawah squads are in high demand, as their involvement simplifies operational planning owing to their combat readiness.

NIA conducted searches across Kerala as part of an investigation on the Popular Front of India

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches across Kerala, seizing incriminating materials as part of its investigation into a case involving jihadi criminal conspiracy and activities attributed to the proscribed unlawful organization, the Popular Front of India (PFI). Nine locations across the state were searched, resulting in the confiscation of numerous digital devices, documents, and other evidence related to the PFI and its affiliated organizations.

The case, registered by the NIA in September 2022, pertains to PFI’s alleged criminal conspiracy and efforts to propagate the ideology of violent jihad in India, with the objective of dismembering the nation and establishing Islamic rule by 2047, as stated by the investigative agency.

NIA investigations indicate that PFI leaders and members conspired to incite communal divisions by radicalizing susceptible youth. Investigations uncovered that PFI established various branches and units, including the ‘Reporters Wing,’ ‘Physical and Arms Training Wing,’ and ‘Service Teams or Hit Teams,’ to advance its malicious agenda. The organization reportedly used its campuses and infrastructure to train selected cadres in arms and physical training under the pretext of activities such as Physical Education and Yoga. The Hit Teams were reportedly being prepared to eliminate designated targets.

Karnataka High Court refuses bail to PFI member Shahid Khan accused of fundraising and radicalisation

The Karnataka High Court denied bail to Popular Front of India (PFI) operative Shahid Khan under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA, citing prima facie evidence of terror funding and organisational involvement, thereby activating the statutory bar on bail pursuant to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A Division Bench comprising Justice H.P. Sandesh and Justice Venkatesh Naik T. dismissed the criminal appeal and upheld the order rejecting bail issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court. The bench observed that the appellant had failed to demonstrate any arbitrariness or illegality in the impugned order and that the restrictions stipulated under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA explicitly barred the grant of bail.

According to the prosecution, the accused were office bearers, members, and cadres of PFI who allegedly espoused extreme religious views and were incited by developments such as the Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Register of Citizens, the hijab controversy, and the Babri Masjid judgment. It was further alleged that they conspired to radicalise Muslim youth, foment religious enmity, destabilise public peace, and ultimately wage an internal conflict against the Government of India. The charge sheet asserted that the accused sought to eliminate prominent Hindu leaders, instil terror within the Hindu community, and undermine the sovereignty and integrity of the nation by training service teams, conducting arms training, and preparing for acts of violence, including murder and bomb blasts.

Intel flagged a suspected Pakistan-backed terror plot codenamed “26-26” ahead of Republic Day

Ahead of Republic Day on 26 January 2026, Indian intelligence agencies flagged a suspected Pakistan-backed terror plot codenamed “26-26”. The conspiracy, allegedly orchestrated by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in coordination with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), was intended to carry out major attacks in India.

The reference to 26 January has prompted heightened security measures across the country, particularly in sensitive locations such as Jammu and Kashmir and the national capital, Delhi.

Following the warning, the Delhi Police issued a wanted poster featuring the photograph of Mohammad Rehan, a terrorist belonging to al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and a resident of Delhi. The poster also features Shahid Faisal, who is believed to be the mastermind behind multiple bomb blasts in southern India.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in West Bengal sentenced Syed Mohammad Idrish of Karnataka to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for recruiting and radicalising Muslim youths for the terrorist group Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The NIA took over the case from the West Bengal Police in April 2020 and arrested Idrish alongside Altaf Ahmed Rather of Jammu and Kashmir during its investigation.

Idrish was charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against five defendants, including a woman, in a Gujarat case linked to the alleged online radicalisation of individuals by the banned terrorist organisation al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

The chargesheet was submitted to a special NIA court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, against Mohammad Fardeen, Kureshi Sefulla, Mohammad Faique, Zeeshan Ali and Shama Parveen.

Intel flags Pakistan plan to use Islamic State label for next terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir

Indian intelligence agencies have reported that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has instructed the militant organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to infiltrate a 12-strong fidayeen squad into the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in preparation for an imminent attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Intelligence agency assessments suggest that the LeT-ISKP hybrid network is already operational in Budgam, Kishtwar and Srinagar districts. Intelligence sources also indicate that terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir are currently being monitored and directed by senior Pakistani military and intelligence officials, including Lieutenant General Ahmad Ehsan Nawaz, Chief of the Pakistan Army’s X Corps, and Brigadier Faiq Ayub, the ISI’s Sector Commander for PoK.

“The aim of this supervision is to sustain violence within the region while maintaining plausible deniability for Islamabad,” the source stated.

It was also reported that Pakistan’s army and ISI have authorised groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba to revise their operational strategies with the explicit instruction that “Pakistan’s direct involvement must remain undisclosed”.

According to intelligence reports, the ISKP fidayeen squad is led by Abu Hurraira, a senior LeT commander who has been active in India since 2021, and his deputy, Mohammad Umar (also known as “Khargosh”), who has been active since 2022. Abu Dujana, who is in his early twenties, infiltrated India in 2024 following recruitment and indoctrination at an early age, demonstrating LeT’s reliance on young recruits for suicide missions. Dujana was trained alongside Umar Lone in 2018; Lone was killed in 2024.

The hybrid LeT–ISKP module is now divided into smaller cells led by Hurraira, Umar and Dujana. Security agencies are closely monitoring Kashmir, viewing the hybridisation as an effort to mask Pakistan-backed terrorism under the Islamic State banner and hinder attribution.

Intel officials revealed that al-Qaeda is using AI for its operations in India

Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) has been using advanced technology to carry out operations in India, which makes investigations more challenging.

Intelligence agencies have discovered that propaganda is being spread and people radicalised via servers hosted in multiple countries.

According to an Intelligence Bureau official, the group is targeting the whole of India and aims to disseminate content across the country. Unlike the Islamic State, which has decided to target only people in the south of the country, al-Qaeda has broader plans.

The official added that the group aims to proceed slowly and steadily without carrying out any major operations. These operations are very low-key, making them very hard to detect.

Investigations clearly indicate the scale of AQIS operations, and the trends are extremely dangerous. Recent investigations have revealed that al-Qaeda has set up servers in Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Pakistan. Each of these servers is being used to deliver content to an Indian audience, according to another official.

While tracking down these servers has presented a significant challenge to security agencies, the extent to which the organisation is utilising artificial intelligence (AI) for its operations in India is even more concerning. Officials have pointed out that the organisation has been exploiting AI to spread its ideology, recruit and carry out disinformation campaigns against India.

In late December 2025, media reports referenced investigations by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad for the first time, disclosing that al-Qaeda had been using servers and control centres in Afghanistan to disseminate radical ideology in India. These findings were revealed during the interrogation of Zubair Hangargekar, who was apprehended in Pune, Maharashtra, in October 2025 for alleged links to the terrorist organisation.

A man detained at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on suspicion of disseminating IS-related content online

The Kerala Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained Muhammed Aadhil upon his return from abroad at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on suspicion of disseminating Islamic State (IS)-related content online. Aadhil has been taken into custody by the ATS for allegedly sharing such content on social media.

As part of the ongoing investigation into the circulation of IS-related posts online, a lookout notice has been issued. Upon his arrival from a Gulf country, immigration authorities intercepted him and alerted the ATS.

The lookout notice was part of the broader investigation into IS propaganda activities.

Muhammad Adil, who was already facing treason charges, is alleged to have maintained links to the Islamic State and used social media to spread anti-national propaganda and recruit young people in Ernakulam, Kerala. He travelled to the Gulf country during the Covid pandemic and was under surveillance for promoting ISIS ideas on social media.

Interrogations of the arrested Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK) members started in Guwahati, Assam

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) began interrogating eleven suspected Islamist terrorists with links to Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), who were arrested by the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) during a coordinated crackdown across Assam and Tripura.

The arrests were carried out on 29 December 2025 under Operation Pratighat, involving simultaneous raids at multiple locations.

Ten suspects were arrested in the Barpeta, Chirang, Baksa and Darrang districts of Assam, while Jagir Miah was apprehended in the Jaipur locality of Tripura.

In Guwahati, NIA officials have started to question the suspects in detail, and other state agencies, including teams from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, are expected to join the investigation, which suggests that there may be interstate links.

The groups allegedly used encrypted digital platforms for indoctrination and recruitment, reflecting a growing reliance on ‘digital jihad’ tactics in north-east India.

IMK is a Bangladesh-based offshoot of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) that was founded in 2018 by Jewel Mahmud and Sohail. Following the regime change in Bangladesh in August 2024, the IMK leadership received directives from the JMB, the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and the al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) to activate and expand their operations in India. Bangladeshi nationals Umar and Khalid were assigned to coordinate activities in Assam. The Assam cell is headed by Nasim Uddin, also known as Tamim, from Barpeta Road.

NIA takes over probe into ISKP-linked ricin terror plot

The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred the ricin terror conspiracy case linked to the Islamic State Khurasan Province (ISKP) to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The plot was uncovered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in November 2025. During the investigation, Hyderabad-based Dr Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed and two associates were detained for surveilling markets in Delhi and Ahmedabad, as well as plotting ricin and firearm attacks.

The NIA has re-registered the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, including Sections 13 and 18, as well as Sections 148 and 149 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 25(1)(B)(a) of the Arms Act. The NIA-led probe in Ahmedabad seeks to identify links to groups such as ISKP, ISIS or Jaish-e-Mohammed by examining digital media and drone activity near the Rajasthan–Pakistan border.

Authorities also raided Dr Syed’s home in Hyderabad, reportedly seizing chemicals for ricin and plans for attacks possibly scheduled for 6 December 2025.

The arrests occurred just days before the Red Fort attack, which killed over ten people and raised fears of a larger conspiracy. Further arrests were made across Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and at the Red Fort itself.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against three individuals, including a psychiatrist, in connection with a terror conspiracy case in Bengaluru in 2023, which is linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan. In a second supplementary chargesheet filed with a court in Bengaluru, the NIA named Anees Fathima, Chan Pasha A and Nagaraj S under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Substances Act, the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Karnataka Prisons Act.

The NIA took over the case from the Bengaluru City Police in October 2023 and had previously charged nine individuals, including the fugitive Junaid Ahmed.

Among those charged was Junaid’s mother, Anees Fathima, who allegedly provided logistical support and funds to Naseer while he was imprisoned at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

She is also accused of handling hand grenades and walkie-talkies on her son’s instructions, as well as facilitating communication among the accused.

The NIA stated that Fathima played a key role in sheltering the accused, Salman Khan, and helping him to escape to Dubai by arranging travel documents. Salman was later extradited from Rwanda to India.
