An Iraqi suspected of coordinating the attacks on several Jewish institutions in the Netherlands has been arrested and is being tried in the United States.
Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi is suspected of a series of attacks in Europe, in most cases in which he is said to have had a leading role.
According to American justice, he is behind the explosion in one synagogue in Rotterdam on March 13, an explosion at a jewish school in Amsterdam on March 14, arson at an American bank on the Amsterdam Zuidas on March 15 and an attempt arson at a building of Christians for Israel in Nijkerk on April 3.
Al-Saadi is also said to have had a coordinating role in, among other things, the explosion at the synagogue in Liège, it set on fire of four ambulances from a Jewish aid organization in London, arson at Jewish institutions in London and the knife attack to two Jewish men in London.
According to his lawyer, the Iraqi was arrested in Turkey. He was probably extradited to the US early this week.
Tapped telephone conversations show that al-Saadi refers to Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah, and spoke about the attacks in the Netherlands and Belgium, among others.
According to the US prosecutor, the Iraqi is a commander within Kataib Hezbollah. In that capacity, al-Saadi would carry out assignments from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
