Two minors and a 19-year-old arrested in Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Alkmaar on suspicion of involvement with Islamic State
The Dutch authorities arrested three terrorism suspects in coordinated raids in Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Alkmaar on suspicion of their involvement with the Islamic State (IS) group. The investigation, led by the Openbaar Ministerie (OM), follows intelligence indicating ongoing IS-related extremist activity. The arrested individuals are aged between sixteen and nineteen. Two of them are minors.
Heavily armed police officers raided three homes in Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Alkmaar during the early hours of Wednesday morning. In at least Eindhoven and Rotterdam, they came out with suspects handcuffed and blindfolded. In Eindhoven, the police used an explosive to get inside the home.
The 19-year-old arrested in Eindhoven was also arrested in 2023 for allegedly planning ISIS terrorist attacks targeting Belgian nightclubs and police stations. The then-16-year-old boy was arrested along with a 19-year-old man from Deventer and a Belgian teen. On Telegram, they chatted about various scenarios for attacks, beheadings, and purchasing weapons and explosives. In early 2024, the Rotterdam court sentenced the Dutch boy to 112 days in prison, community service, and an ankle monitor. He wasn’t allowed to leave the Netherlands for some time and was placed under the supervision of the probation service.

Twelve repatriated Dutch IS women face trial for terrorism and international crimes - “Chico” case
The Openbaar Ministerie (OM) has brought twelve repatriated Dutch women before the court. All were repatriated from detention camps in northeaster Syria between 2022 and 2023 and are accused of offences committed while living under Islamic State (IS).
The charges include participation in a terrorist organisation, preparation of terrorist offences and, in several individual cases, slavery as a crime against humanity, looting, and child endangerment.
The proceedings follow the 3-5 June 2026 substantive appeal hearing in the high-profile “Chico” case, in which the Court of Appeal upheld the defendant’s conviction for IS participation and terrorism-related offences.
A pro forma hearing for the remaining IS participation cases was subsequently held on 15 July 2026, with the prosecutions continuing.

Europol concluded a week-long operational action targeting the so-called Islamic State Khorasan Province
Europol, in coordination with eight European law enforcement agencies and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), successfully concluded a week-long operational action targeting the so-called Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and its support networks across Europe. From 1 to 5 June 2026, the operation focused on ISKP-affiliated individuals of Chechen and Central Asian origin, identified through shared investigative leads.

Dutch court upholds revocation of nationality of convicted IS woman
The District Court of The Hague has upheld the Dutch government’s decision to revoke the nationality of a woman previously convicted for participation in Islamic State (IS). The woman challenged the withdrawal of her Dutch citizenship, but the court dismissed her appeal, ruling that terrorist offences seriously harm the essential interests and national security of the Netherlands. The judgment confirms that the Minister acted lawfully under Article 14(4) of the Dutch Nationality Act (Rijkswet op het Nederlanderschap), which allows the revocation of Dutch nationality from dual nationals who have been irrevocably convicted of a terrorist offence. The court also found that the decision complied with the principles of proportionality and with the requirements of EU law and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Fourth suspect arrested in connection with planned explosion at Heemstede synagogue
Dutch police have arrested a fourth suspect, a 19-year-old man from Amsterdam, in the investigation into a planned attack targeting a synagogue in Heemstede. Three other suspects, aged 15 to 19, had previously been arrested. Authorities believe the group was preparing an explosion at the synagogue, but the plot was disrupted before it could be carried out.
The case is being examined in the broader context of recent attacks and planned attacks against Jewish sites in the Netherlands. Responsibility for related actions targeting Jewish institutions was claimed online by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah (“Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right”), a pro-Iran jihadist group that has circulated videos of attacks on Jewish targets in the Netherlands and Belgium. Wisal al M. and Ahmad al M. are suspected of being members of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq
A 59-year-old asylum-seeking father and his 29-year-old son are suspected of being members of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq. According to the Public Prosecution Service in Den Bosch, Wisal al-M. and Ahmad al-M. were on the IS payroll while the terrorist group controlled the Iraqi city of Mosul.
The East Brabant Public Prosecutor’s Office is handling the case because the father stayed in Grave and Velp during the investigation. The son has no permanent home address.
The Public Prosecution Service emphasises that there are no indications that the two men in the Netherlands were still engaged in terrorist activities or promoting IS ideology. Nevertheless, the court considers the suspicions serious enough to detain them. The court also considers the evidence valid.
The father and son have been in the terrorist wing of Vught prison since March. They appeared in court for the first time in Den Bosch on 11 June. Their lawyers requested that their remand in custody be lifted, but this request was denied.

Loes F. from Geleen arrested upon return to the Netherlands
Loes F., a 35-year-old woman from Geleen who travelled to Syria in 2015, was arrested by the Royal Military Police on 4 June when she returned to the Netherlands. She is suspected of preparing and promoting terrorist crimes on behalf of the Islamic State (IS) group.
In the summer of 2015, she travelled from Limburg to Raqqa, Syria, where IS had declared a so-called ‘caliphate’ at the time, the Public Prosecution Service outlines. While there, she married an IS fighter.
In 2019, she was arrested and tried in Turkey for belonging to the Islamic State terrorist organisation. However, she was acquitted by a Turkish judge. This means that she cannot be tried for the same offence in the Netherlands. However, she can be tried for preparing and promoting terrorist crimes committed by the Islamic State.

The court in The Hague sentenced Ayada Kachar to seven years in prison for complicity in a war crime
The court in The Hague has sentenced 49-year-old Ayada Kachar to seven years in prison for complicity in a war crime. She left Naaldwijk for Syria with her two minor children in 2014. Once there, she allowed her son to be recruited as a child soldier for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group. The boy died at the age of 16 in fighting near the Syrian city of Raqqa.
The court states that the woman was aware of IS’s ideas and actions at the time of leaving. In Syria she married an IS fighter with whom she had come into contact in the Netherlands via Facebook.
The woman is further convicted of withholding care from her son, resulting in his death. She has also removed her children from the authority of her ex-partner with a trick. She promoted the commission of terrorist crimes by facilitating her husband and later her son in their work as an IS fighter, the court said.

27-year-old Abdul A. convicted for distributing videos from IS
The Rotterdam court has convicted Abdul A., a 27-year-old man from Numansdorp, for distributing videos from the terrorist organization IS. He will receive sixteen months in prison, six of which will be conditional. Abdul A. used multiple accounts on TikTok to send “very gruesome” videos from IS. The Judge: “People are executed in the most violent ways. Throats are cut, people are beheaded, shot and blown up and all this, in the name of IS, is glorified in battle songs and speeches.”

Amin Abu Rashid acquitted by the Rotterdam Court of financing Hamas but convicted of sanctions evasion and managing a banned organization
Amin Abu Rashid, nicknamed Abou Eenarm, was acquitted by the Rotterdam Court of financing Hamas, ruling that there was insufficient evidence to prove that he knowingly supported the organisation. The case concerned donations transferred to the Mercy Association for Children (MAC) and payments routed through the Islamic National Bank, a financial institution that was controlled by Hamas in Gaza. While the court acknowledged that MAC had been linked to Hamas in 2011, it found no evidence that the defendant was aware of such links at the time of the transfers.
The court also declined to rely on part of the prosecution’s open-source evidence. However, judges concluded that Abou Rashid was a Hamas sympathiser, citing his VIP treatment at a Hamas event and photographs with former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Although acquitted of terrorism-financing charges, Abou Rashid received a six-month suspended prison sentence – a far cry from the three-year prison sentence sought by the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service (PPS) – for continuing the activities of the banned Al Aqsa Foundation through the Israa Foundation. According to the judgment, the Israa structure enabled the continuation of activities associated with the banned organisation despite European sanctions, effectively allowing those activities to continue under a different organisational framework.

Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba Terrorist Attempted to Obtain Dutch Identity Documents Before Arrest in India

Iraqi probably behind attacks on Jewish targets in the Netherlands arrested
An Iraqi suspected of coordinating the attacks on several Jewish institutions in the Netherlands has been arrested and is being tried in the United States.
Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi is suspected of a series of attacks in Europe, in most cases in which he is said to have had a leading role.
According to American justice, he is behind the explosion in one synagogue in Rotterdam on March 13, an explosion at a jewish school in Amsterdam on March 14, arson at an American bank on the Amsterdam Zuidas on March 15 and an attempt arson at a building of Christians for Israel in Nijkerk on April 3.
Al-Saadi is also said to have had a coordinating role in, among other things, the explosion at the synagogue in Liège, it set on fire of four ambulances from a Jewish aid organization in London, arson at Jewish institutions in London and the knife attack to two Jewish men in London.
According to his lawyer, the Iraqi was arrested in Turkey. He was probably extradited to the US early this week.
Tapped telephone conversations show that al-Saadi refers to Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah, and spoke about the attacks in the Netherlands and Belgium, among others.
According to the US prosecutor, the Iraqi is a commander within Kataib Hezbollah. In that capacity, al-Saadi would carry out assignments from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Dutch court released three individuals accused of spreading IS propaganda
A Dutch court has released three individuals accused of spreading IS propaganda on TikTok. The suspects, who are aged between 21 and 24, are from Hoorn, The Hague and Leiderdorp. As a condition of their release, they are not allowed to use social media.
These persons are among the 16 arrested in nine police districts on 10 February by alleged involvement in the terrorist organization IS and inciting terrorism through TikTok.
The main suspect, a 21-year-old from Hoorn, was arrested on January 20. His lawyer says his client did this for financial gain and not out of ideological conviction.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, the court decided to release the three accused, including their young age and their good school performance. One of them indicated that he wanted to focus on his personal goals and ambitions. The majority of the 16 accused, meanwhile, are awaiting trial outside custody. Two others, a 22-year-old from Schagen and a 27-year-old from Numansdorp, remain in custody. They must appear in court later this month in Haarlem and Rotterdam respectively.

Dutch police have arrested a 17-year-old boy from Uithoorn in connection with the explosion in march on the Amsterdam Zuidas. The explosion caused material damage and heightened tensions. Authorities are investigating the motive and possible ideological drivers behind the attack, which forms part of a series of recent incidents targeting Jewish and pro-Israel-linked sites in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries.
On the night of March 15 to 16, a small fire broke out after an explosion at a building on Strawinskylaan, which also houses an American bank. The group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah claimed the attack.

Syrian IS Supporter Sentenced to 24 Months for Participation in Terrorist Organisation and Dissemination of Extremist Propaganda
On 22 April, the Rechtbank Zeeland-West-Brabant has sentenced a 23-year-old Syrian man to 24 months imprisonment, including 12 months suspended with a three-year probation period, for participation in Islamic State.
The court found that the suspect actively engaged in the dissemination of IS propaganda and jihadist extremist content between 2022 and 2025 through multiple social media and chat groups. He subscribed to and redistributed IS newsletters, shared violent extremist material, sang jihadist nasheeds on video, pledged bay’a (allegiance) to IS, expressed a desire to travel to Syria to join the group, and voiced support for terrorist attacks, including reacting positively to a deadly Christmas market attack.
The investigation, partly based on AIVD (General Intelligence and Security Service) intelligence reports, also revealed discussions about obtaining AK-47 rifles, while authorities later found a gas pistol, ammunition, knives, cocaine, and other weapons in his possession.
The court concluded that the suspect’s sustained online activism and propaganda efforts aligned with the media strategy and “electronic jihad” doctrine of IS, amounting to active participation in the terrorist organisation rather than mere sympathy.

25-year-old man from Den Bosch Arrested for Preparing and Facilitating Terrorist Attack

Four-Year Prison Sentence Demanded for Financing Hamas-Linked Organisation
The Openbaar Ministerie (OM) has demanded a four-year prison sentence for a suspect accused of financing an organisation with links to Hamas. According to prosecutors, Amin Abou Rashed, a Palestinian from Leidschendam who goes by the nickname Abou Eenarm, channelled 8.5 million euros to Hamas.
There was a picture of Abou Rashed with Prime Minister Haniyeh at his home in Leidschendam. There were also photos of Abou Rashed at Hamas’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Although there were 250,000 spectators, Abou Rashed had a VIP pass and was seated in the first row. He wore a green cap and shouted that “the land was being irrigated with the blood of the martyrs”, speaking of the “blessed resistance”.
According to the judiciary, Abou Rashed is at the heart of the Israa Foundation, which appears to be a continuation of the Aqsa Foundation, banned in 2003. While it may seem that he is no longer in charge of the foundation, the Public Prosecution Service believes that this appearance of distance is deliberate.

Public Prosecutor’s Office requested a prison sentence for a 28-year-old man from Deventer
A 28-year-old man from Deventer is viewed by the Public Prosecution Service as “a link in the digital propaganda network” of terrorist organizations IS and Al-Qaeda. He is accused of inciting the commission of terrorism through messages on TikTok and Facebook. In addition, the man was in possession of an air rifle, machetes, and IS flags.
The prosecutor requests a prison sentence of 180 days, of which 164 days are suspended. After deducting time spent in pre-trial detention, this means that, as far as the Public Prosecution Service is concerned, he does not have to return to prison. The prosecutor also requests a community service order of 240 hours.
The court will deliver its verdict on April 14.

Terrorism Charges Against Mohamed A. Dismissed by Dutch Court
The Court of Appeal in The Hague has significantly reduced the sentence of Mohamed A., ruling that there was insufficient evidence to support earlier convictions for preparing a terrorist offence and terrorism financing. 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of being a member of ISIS
A 21-year-old man from Eindhoven has been arrested on suspicion of being a member of ISIS and of terrorism. The armed Special Intervention Unit (DSI) raided his home on Ruysdaelbaan in Eindhoven. According to Omroep Brabant, loud bangs could be heard in the vicinity during the raid.

Prosecutor’s Office requested a seven-year prison sentence for a woman who was repatriated with her children in 2024
The Prosecutor’s Office requested a seven-year prison sentence for Ayada K., a woman who travelled to Syria with her two young children in 2014 to join the terrorist group Islamic State (IS). One of her children later died in a bomb attack there.
Ms K., aged 49, is suspected of belonging to a terrorist organisation, endangering her children and being an accomplice to a war crime by allowing her son to be recruited as a child soldier.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the woman from Naaldwijk travelled to Syria via Turkey twelve years ago with her children, who were aged 13 and 14 at the time. Shortly before her departure, Ayada K. is said to have told her ex-husband that she was going on holiday and cleared out her home.
She married an ISIS fighter, had a son with him, and, according to the Public Prosecutor, settled in an area controlled by ISIS. Her daughter also married twice at a young age.
It is alleged that Ayada K.’s son attended an ISIS training camp and then enlisted in the terrorist group’s military police in Raqqa. According to the Public Prosecutor, he was employed by IS. He supported his mother financially. He died in 2017, aged 15.
Ayada K. was repatriated with her children in 2024 and has been in prison ever since.

Suspects arrested linked to an explosion at a synagogue in Rotterdam and suspicious incident at a synagogue in Heemstede
At around 3.45 am on 13 March, the police responded to a small fire and an explosion at a synagogue in Rotterdam. That very same night, four teenagers from Tilburg were arrested. The following week, a fifth man from Tilburg was arrested, and since yesterday, a 20-year-old man from Tilburg has been in custody alongside the 23-year-old man from Amsterdam.
On 20 March, the Jewish community was once again shaken by a suspicious incident at a synagogue in Heemstede. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there were plans to carry out an attack. Two teenagers (aged 14 and 17) from Amsterdam had already been arrested in connection with this, and a third Amsterdam resident (aged 18) has been in custody since yesterday. The three latest suspects are being held in strict isolation and are only permitted to have contact with their solicitor.
Two weeks ago, there was also an explosion at the Cheider Jewish school in Buitenveldert. An external wall of the school was damaged. According to the police, two suspects are involved in this case. No suspects have yet been arrested in this case.

The police foiled a possible attack on the Chabad Jewish school building in Heemstede. A Fifth Suspect Arrested by Police linked to the Rotterdam Synagogue Attack
A fifth suspect was arrested by police in the Netherlands investigating an explosion at the Rotterdam synagogue, amid concerns Iran is using Shiite proxies to attack Jewish targets in Europe.
The Rotterdam synagogue attack was preceded by an attack on a Jewish school in Amsterdam and followed the firebombing of a synagogue in the Belgian city of Liege. Responsibility for the attacks has been claimed by a new group calling itself Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right.
The fifth suspect is a 19-year-old man from Tilburg. The four other suspects, aged 17 to 19, were detained shortly after the incident.

Explosion at the Atrium office complex in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district
An explosion started a small fire at the Atrium office complex in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district overnight, the police confirmed to local media. Unverified video of the attack is circulating on social media, with reports that it was claimed by the same group that claimed earlier attacks on a Jewish school in Amsterdam and a synagogue in Rotterdam.
The video circulating online shows images of the Atrium office complex, followed by a backpack and a lighter, lighting a fuse. Dutch Court refused to suspend the pre-trial detention of Syrian Asylum Seeker Suspected of Terror Plot
A Dutch court refused to suspend the pre-trial detention of a 34-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, who was arrested in November 2025 at the Dronten asylum reception centre.
The court cited extremist material found on the asylum seeker’s online accounts, as well as concerns about the risk of him fleeing the country. Prosecutors stated that the suspect had used coded language in chats, referring to ‘300 beans, 4 melons and the iron’, which the authorities believe to have been a reference to a firearm, ammunition and cartridges. Later discussions also mentioned a suppressor.
Following an AIVD warning, the suspect was arrested and allegedly attempted to stab a police officer. Investigators believe that he may have held a leading role in a group as he was referred to as ‘the sheikh’ in chat messages. The next court hearing is scheduled for early June.

American-Lebanese ‘Hate Preacher’ Mohamed Baajour cancels visit to Utrecht after controversy about past statements
Approximately fifteen Dutch ISIS fighters who had been detained for years in Kurdish-run prisons in north-eastern Syria have been transferred by U.S. forces to detention facilities in Iraq, or are expected to be moved there shortly. A significant number originate from The Hague, particularly the Schilderswijk district, and travelled to Syria between 2012 and 2013 to join ISIS. The Dutch government confirmed that Dutch nationals are among the thousands of ISIS detainees relocated to Iraq, but does not have a precise overview of their current whereabouts. Repatriation to the Netherlands is not under consideration. Most of the men have already been irrevocably convicted in absentia, and some have been stripped of their Dutch nationality. Prosecution in the region remains legally and politically complex, particularly due to Iraq’s use of the death penalty.

15 arrested, including four minors, for spreading ISIS propaganda and inciting terrorism online

Rotterdam man sentenced to 60 hours of community service for insulting and inciting hatred against Jews
A 51-year-old man from Rotterdam was sentenced to 60 hours of community service for insulting Jews and inciting hatred against them.
He was convicted for making statements that used inflammatory and antisemitic language, including slogans such as: ‘From the river to the sea, Israel will never be free’, expressed hope that the Arab world would declare war, denied Jewish ties to Palestine and made a derogatory remark about Anne Frank.
The court found that these statements went beyond political expression and constituted criminal insult and incitement to hatred under Dutch law.

A man from Amsterdam arrested on suspicion of financing IS and AQ with Bitcoin
A man from Amsterdam was arrested on suspicion of financing terrorism through Bitcoin transactions. Authorities searched two residences in the city and seized, among other items, mobile phones. After questioning, the suspect was released but remained under investigation. According to investigators, the man allegedly transferred more than €5,000 in Bitcoin during 2019 and 2020 to digital wallet addresses used by individuals linked to terrorist organisations. The investigation was initiated following a report of an unusual transaction filed with the Dutch Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the national authority responsible for receiving and analysing suspicious transaction reports from institutions such as banks, notaries, and casinos.

Former Syrian militia members sentenced or war crimes and crimes against humanity
The Hague District Court in the Netherlands sentenced former Syrian militia member, identified only as Mustafa A., to 12 years in prison for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during his time as Liwa al-Quds leader between 2011 and 2017.The court stated Mustafa A. was a high ranking member of Liwa al-Quds, known within the group as “commander” and “was one of five Liwa al-Quds leaders to receive a high Russian military decoration in 2015″.
Aside from being charged for his participation in Liwa al-Quds, the court deemed Mustafa A. complicit in the unlawful arrest, deportation and torture of a Palestinian refugee with opposing views in 2013. Mustafa A. was charged with knowingly handing over the refugee to the Intelligence Service of the Syrian Air Force, who is “infamous for its cruel torture practices, often with fatal consequences”, stated the court.

The Court of Den Haag upheld the government’s decision to revoke the Dutch nationality of a dual Dutch-Turkish national after his final conviction for participation in a terrorist organisation and preparation of a terrorist offence.
The case was connected to involvement with the terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS) abroad. Following the conviction, authorities also imposed a return decision and a 20-year entry ban.
The court rejected the applicant’s arguments that the measures were discriminatory or disproportionate and ruled that, given the seriousness of his IS-related activities, the revocation of nationality and long-term entry ban were legally justified.

Juvenile Court Sentenced a minor for threatening to commit a terrorist attack
On 5 August 2025, the Rechtbank Rotterdam convicted a minor defendant for threatening to commit a terrorist attack in Vondelpark, Amsterdam (July 2023) and for the preparation of a terrorist attack planned for New Year’s Eve 2024 in Amsterdam.
The court sentenced the defendant to 300 days of juvenile detention (with time served deducted), partly suspended under special conditions, and imposed an additional 120 hours of community service. In the same hearing, the court also convicted the defendant of participation in and financing of the terrorist organizations Islamic State (IS) and Al-Qaeda (AQ), as well as preparing a terrorist attack for New Year’s Eve 2024.
According to the court’s findings, on 24 June 2023, the defendant posted a message in a pro-ISIS Discord server stating that he intended to carry out a mass shooting or terrorist attack on 6 July 2023 in Vondelpark where an event would take place. The message was flagged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and forwarded to Dutch authorities.

Woman acquitted of participation in the IS but convicted of endangering unborn child by travelling to conflict zone
On 18 July 2025, the Court of Appeal in The Hague acquitted a Dutch woman of participation in the Islamic State (IS) and of preparing or facilitating terrorist crimes, but convicted her for placing her unborn child in a helpless condition by knowingly travelling to Syria while six months pregnant. The defendant travelled to Syria in April 2013 to join her husband, who later became affiliated with IS. She lived in IS-controlled territory between 2013 and 2017 and maintained a household while her husband served within the organisation’s structures.
The Court imposed an eight-month prison sentence, shorter than the time already spent in pre-trial detention.

Eight-year prison sentence sought for Tajik ISKP member active in recruitment and attack facilitation
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) requested an eight-year prison sentence for a 31-year-old man from Tajikistan who was suspected of being a member of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). According to prosecutors, the suspect had made himself available to fight in conflict zones or commit an attack in the West. He was accused of recruiting individuals for IS cells in several countries, including the Netherlands, thereby helping to establish attack facilitation networks in Europe. The OM also stated that he had raised funds for IS activities.
The suspect was arrested in Eindhoven in 2023 following an extensive criminal investigation initiated after an official intelligence report from the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). Investigators believed he attempted to travel to Syria in 2016 to join IS but was detained in Turkey and deported to Ukraine. Authorities suspected that he continued IS-related activities there as part of an IS cell.
After arriving in the Netherlands, he allegedly maintained contact with IS members, including individuals later convicted in other European countries for IS involvement. In encrypted Telegram communications, one contact reportedly asked when an attack would be carried out in the Netherlands, to which the suspect responded that patience was required. The case was heard before the Rotterdam District Court.

The case highlighted concerns about terrorist groups, including ISIS and Al-Qaeda, using cryptocurrency to solicit donations and fund their activities.

Prosecution Service requested five-year sentence for IS man suspected of preparing a terrorist attack
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) requested a five-year prison sentence against a man – in pre-trial detention – suspected of participation in the Islamic State (IS), preparing a terrorist attack, and vandalising 117 graves.
According to prosecutors, the suspect adhered to jihadist ideology and engaged in activities supporting IS. In addition to terrorism-related charges, he allegedly caused extensive destruction at a cemetery. The court was expected to deliver its judgment at a later stage. No psychiatric measure, such as TBS (court-ordered forensic psychiatric detention measure), was requested in the prosecution’s demand.

20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of terrorism
A 20-year-old Syrian man living in Rotterdam was arrested on 7 March in Apeldoorn on suspicion of membership in a terrorist organisation and planning a terrorist attack. The arrest followed a tip received by Rotterdam police from abroad and was carried out without incident by the Dutch Special Intervention Service (DSI).
On 10 March, a judge ordered that he remain in custody for an additional 14 days.

18-year-old terror suspect planned attacks on Dutch churches
An 18-year-old student from Eindhoven appeared in court in The Hague, accused of planning multiple terrorist attacks in the Netherlands. Targets included churches, courts, police stations, the Dutch parliament and an anti-Islam activist.
Prosecutors alleged that, during the summer of 2024, he had conducted online research into attacks, discussed organising jihad or shootings on social media, and posted threatening content glorifying the Islamic State (IS). He had been detained in the high-security terrorism unit of Vught prison since October 2024, and the next court hearing had been scheduled for 19 May.

Rotterdam resident arrested for spreading jihadist ideology
Police in Rotterdam arrested a 20-year-old man at his home on suspicion of posting multiple social media messages that promote jihadist ideology. Officers seized devices and images from the residence, including photos showing the suspect wearing a balaclava, protective vest, and carrying a machete.
He was then investigated for membership in a terrorist organisation and for spreading and glorifying jihadist propaganda. There was no indications that he had concrete plans to carry out an attack.

Two years’ prison and TBS sought for man who tried to travel to IS territory
Dutch prosecutors were seeking a two-year prison sentence followed by a TBS (treatment and surveillance order) for a 24-year-old man from Naaldwijk who was suspected of trying to travel to Somalia to join the Islamic State group.
According to the authorities, he was arrested in Paris en route and had gathered extremist propaganda, materials about explosives and suicide tactics, and had discussed his plans online.
Although there were no concrete plans for an attack, the public prosecutor described him as heavily radicalised and potentially willing to commit violent acts. Court-appointed experts concluded that he had reduced accountability due to mental health issues and substance addiction. This led to a conditional TBS (a court-ordered forensic psychiatric detention measure) with restrictions, including a travel ban and a ban on using social media.

American-Lebanese ‘Hate Preacher’ Mohamed Baajour cancels visit to Utrecht after controversy about past statements
In a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives, the Minister of Justice and Security stated that around 10 former jihadists — approximately two-thirds of those whose Dutch nationality has been revoked — remain in the Netherlands.
Although their citizenship was withdrawn, many were not deported to their countries of origin. Consequently, after serving their prison sentences, they could remain in the Netherlands without legal status, raising concerns about the capacity to monitor them and the potential risk to public order.
