An 18-year-old Polish man has been jailed for 2.5 years

An 18-year-old Polish man who planned a mass casualty attack inspired by Islamic State and who incited racial hatred has been jailed for 2.5 years. A regional court in the southeastern Polish city of Tarnobrzeg delivered the verdict. The accused has been in custody since June 2025.

Prosecutors say that between November 2024 and May 2025, the teenager named by the authorities only as Remigiusz Ż posted online content encouraging violent crimes and hatred on the basis of nationality and religion.

Authorities also found notes related to a planned school attack in the southeastern Podkarpackie region, including lists of potential victims, as well as information on weapons, explosives, toxic substances and bomb-making methods.

He was also found with materials praising jihad and the Islamic State.

A 19-year-old student charged with preparing an attack at a Christmas market

Polish security services have detained a 19-year-old student suspected of seeking to establish contacts with Islamic State and charged with preparing an attack at a Christmas market that could have caused mass casualties, authorities said on Tuesday.

Mateusz W., a student at the Catholic University of Lublin, wanted to commit an attack using explosives and planned to join a terrorist organization.
