    Eight individuals associated with the University of Michigan were indicted for their alleged roles in conspiracies to threaten University of Michigan leaders, law enforcement, and businesses, including the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

    They are Zainab Aliasgar Hakim (Canton, Michigan) (age 23), Amatullah Aliasgar Hakim (Ann Arbor, Michigan) (age 21), Paige Elizabeth Feyock (Ann Arbor, Michigan) (age 26), Ahmet Kerem Korkaya (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) (age 28), Jonathan Hongru Zou (Ann Arbor, Michigan) (age 22), Alexander Matthew Sepulveda (Chicago, Illinois) (age 23), Mariam Muhammed Odeh (Dearborn, Michigan) (age 24), and Colin Hunter Weger (Ann Arbor, Michigan) (age 24).

    After the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, the defendants and unindicted conspirators enacted a series of coordinated “actions” threatening University of Michigan leaders, law enforcement, and businesses. Seemingly prompted by their perception of the University of Michigan’s and other victims’ purported financial support of Israel, the conspirators insisted publicly that they “must escalate, mobilize, and organize to demand divestment by any means necessary.”

    Among other actions, they damaged and defaced homes and businesses with spray-painted messages, threats, and symbols, including inverted triangles, which Hamas has used in its military videos to mark targets for death; red handprints, which Hamas has used to symbolize the Ramallah Lynching of 2000 and the murder of two Israeli military reservists during the Second Intifada; and phrases such as “INTIFADA” and “DIVEST NOW.”

    Former Taliban Commander Haji Najibullah sentenced to 42 years in prison for terrorism charges

    Haji Najibullah, a 50-year-old former Taliban commander from Afghanistan, was sentenced to 42 years in prison on terrorism charges. He was convicted based on his role in the kidnapping of an American journalist and two Afghan nationals in Afghanistan and Pakistan between 2008 and 2009, as well as his leadership of Taliban fighters who attacked U.S. servicemembers in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2009. These attacks resulted in the deaths of American soldiers and other victims.

    On 25 April 2025, Najibullah pleaded guilty to taking hostages and providing material support for terrorist acts resulting in death. In addition to the prison term, he was sentenced to five years of supervised release.

    Mohamed Sagha charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS

    Mohamed Sagha, 22, of Wayne, New Jersey was charged by complaint with one count of attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS.

    From approximately December 2025 to June 2026, Sagha participated in one or more online chat groups wherein ISIS supporters discussed, among other things, potential attacks on targets within the United States, including places of worship. In or around October 2025, he met a confidential human source (“CHS”) online, whom he believed to be a member of ISIS.

    In his discussions with the CHS, Sagha expressed an intent to assist one of the members of an ISIS-supporters online chat group with an attack on a place of worship. He also told the CHS he was contemplating carrying out an attack of his own, possibly on a National Guard location or on a Jewish place of worship. He then shared images and/or videos of both locations with the CHS, and stated that they were near his residence in Wayne, New Jersey.

    During these conversations, the CHS repeatedly held himself out as an ISIS fighter, sending Sagha messages and photographs that indicated the CHS was in ISIS territory in Syria. These included a photograph of the CHS in the back of a truck holding an ISIS flag, as well as a photograph of the CHS leaning against a vehicle over which the ISIS flag was draped, holding what appeared to be an AK-47-style assault rifle. Sagha, in turn, repeatedly expressed a desire to travel to ISIS territory, and even made an unsuccessful attempt at doing so in early March, 2026.

    Between on or about May 31 and June 2, Sagha and the CHS discussed the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for the CHS and other ISIS fighters referred to as “brothers.” VPN technology enables users to conceal their online activities, mask their locations and identities, and communicate with greater anonymity. In the hands of members of a foreign terrorist organization, the technology can assist efforts to evade detection, maintain communications, and further the organization’s activities. Sagha ultimately purchased a VPN, sent it to the CHS — whom he believed to be a member of a terrorist organization — and explained to the CHS how to use the VPN.

    Three US citizens were arrested for having discussed violent attacks and tried to develop a cryptocurrency scheme to buy RPGS and drones to attack US servicemembers

    Bisaam Ghafoor, 21, of Leawood, Kansas; Elias Shamsaldeen, 21, of Porterville, California; and Bereen Dzayee, 25, of Lakeside, California, were arrested by FBI on a complaint filed in the District of Kansas for conspiring to provide material support to terrorism after collectively providing over $2,000 to an individual they understood to be a member of ISIS.

    According to the complaint, these defendants conspired to support ISIS, a ruthless terrorist organization, with the intent, among other things, to fund plans to kill American servicemembers abroad.

    According to the complaint, filed in the District of Kansas, beginning by at least February 2025 to about June 2026, the individuals communicated about several plans to support ISIS, including through the provision of personnel, services, and money. Through Discord chats, voice calls, and other messaging platforms, the coconspirators pledged allegiance to ISIS and its leader. The defendants exchanged messages in social media groups promoting violence in furtherance of ISIS.

    The defendants collectively provided over $2,000 to an individual they believed to be an ISIS member. Ghafoor’s name was written on the projectile of one of the rocket-propelled grenades purportedly to be used in an attack overseas to kill U.S. servicemembers. Shamsaldeen provided financial resources for the purpose of purchasing drones, which, in turn, were to be used to attack and kill U.S. servicemembers deployed overseas.

    The defendants and others communicated their desires to travel outside the United States to fight on behalf of ISIS. In some of these communications, they expressed a willingness to die on behalf of ISIS.

    Two New Jersey young men set to plead guilty after plotting ISIS-aligned violence online

    Two 19-year-old Montclair residents, Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel and Milo Sedarat, are preparing to plead guilty after allegedly pledging allegiance to ISIS and discussing violent attacks. Sedarat’s lawyers claim he was radicalized by post October 7 social-media algorithms that fed him gory war footage, antisemitic content, and ISIS propaganda, though they argue he never carried out violence or contacted actual ISIS members.

    Prosecutors state that Sedarat expressed fantasies about killing Jewish people, attacking a pro-Israel march, and supporting a friend’s travel to Turkey. Jimenez-Guzel, the son of a UN diplomat, was arrested at Newark Airport while allegedly attempting to travel to Syria via Turkey. He had reportedly spoken about beheading “infidels” and becoming notorious enough for a documentary.

    Sedarat is expected to plead guilty to concealment of material support to a foreign terrorist organization, with two threat charges to be dropped. He is seeking release to home confinement under strict monitoring, while Jimenez-Guzel is scheduled to enter his plea on 9 July. Both were arrested in November as part of a wider investigation into online extremist networks.

    Dual Iranian-Iraqi national - Mohammad Al-Saadi - indicted in US for directing global terror attacks for Hezbollah and the IRGC

    Federal prosecutors charged Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawook Al-Saadi, 32, with eight terrorism related offenses for allegedly acting as a senior operative for Kata’ib Hezbollah and Iran’s IRGC, directing nearly 20 attacks, and attempted attacks across Europe and plotting attacks inside the United States. Prosecutors say he worked closely with top IRGC-QF figures and ordered retaliation attacks targeting U.S. civilians and officials after American strikes on militia leaders.

    According to the indictment, Al-Saadi helped plan and coordinate 18 European attacks under the false front group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, filmed attacks in real time, produced propaganda, and discussed “psychological warfare” with Kata’ib Hezbollah contacts. In March-April 2026, he allegedly attempted to orchestrate attacks in the U.S., including scouting a New York synagogue and asking a U.S. contact to find someone who could “burn” or “kill”. He was detained abroad on 1 May and transferred to FBI custody on 14 May.

    Al-Saadi faces charges including material support to FTOs, terrorism financing, attempted terrorism transcending national boundaries, and conspiracy to bomb public places, several of which carry maximum sentences of 20 years to life. Prosecutors emphasize that he served as a key operational link between Hezbollah, the IRGC, and attackers across multiple countries.

    US sanctions four individuals linked to pro-Hamas flotilla

    The US Treasury sanctioned four individuals linked to pro-Hamas flotilla organized by the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA) and the Samidoun network, both described as fronts for Hamas-aligned terrorist organizations. Those designated include senior PCPA officials Saif Hashim Kamel Abukishek, Hisham Abdallah Sulayman Abu Mahfuz, and Samidoun coordinators Mohammed Khatib and Jaldia Abubakra Aueda.

    Treasury also targeted Hamas-aligned Muslim Brotherhood structures in Gaza, including the Palestinian Scholars Association led by Marwan Abu Ras, and sanctioned HASM – which is an Egypt-based violent offshoot group connected to the Muslim Brotherhood that is committed to carrying out terrorist attacks against civilians – linked operatives such as Karim Sayed Ahmed Moghny and Muhammad Jamal Hassan al-Najjar for training militants, acquiring weapons, and supporting Hamas operations. Officials said these networks help Hamas expand influence, coordinate ideological goals, and facilitate attacks.

    All designated individuals are now subject to full OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) blocking sanctions, prohibiting U.S. persons and financial institutions from engaging with them. Treasury warned that foreign banks facilitating significant transactions with these actors risk secondary sanctions, and emphasized that flotillas tied to designated groups pose major compliance risks despite humanitarian branding.

    Senior Hezbollah commander - Mohammad Al-Saadi - charged in US for plotting attacks on American Jews and directing global terror campaign

    Federal authorities arrested Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, 32, an Iraqi national and senior commander in Kata’ib Hezbollah, accusing him of directing attacks on behalf of Iran-backed militias. Prosecutors say he plotted to burn down a New York synagogue and Jewish centers in Los Angeles and Scottsdale, offering an undercover officer $10,000 to strike all three sites at once. He allegedly urged followers to kill Americans and Jews and maintained ties to top IRGC-QF leaders, including Qasem Soleimani.

    Investigators say Al Saadi coordinated 18 attacks across Europe in March-April 2026.     Al-Saadi was arrested overseas, transferred to U.S. custody, and appeared in Manhattan federal court on May 15. He faces charges including conspiracy to provide material to foreign terrorist organizations, conspiracy to bomb public spaces, and attempted destruction of property with explosives. Officials describe the case as one of the most significant Iran-proxy terrorism prosecutions in recent years, underscoring the global reach of Iran-backed militias and their efforts to strike Jewish communities and U.S. interests.

    Missouri man - Jordan Derrick - arrested after New Orleans terrorist used his bomb-making videos

    Federal prosecutors arrested Jordan Derrick, 40, of Missouri, accusing him of posting online bomb-making tutorials later used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the ISIS-inspired attacker who killed 14 people in New Orleans on New Year’s Day 2025. Investigators say Derrick filmed step-by-step guides showing how to make explosives and detonators.

    According to a federal complaint, Jabbar downloaded Derrick’s videos and used them to build the improvised explosive devices he planted around Bourbon Street before driving a truck into crowds. RDX – one of the explosives shown in Derrick’s tutorials – was allegedly found in Jabbar’s vehicle after the attack. The planted devices never detonated, and Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police.

    Derrick now faces charges including manufacturing explosives, possessing an unregistered destructive device, and distributing information on making explosives. Prosecutors say his online content directly enabled a deadly terrorist attack carried out in support of ISIS, a group responsible for widespread violence and human rights abuses.

    Colorado man sentenced to life plus 2,128 years for deadly firebombing of pro-hostage demonstrators

    Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 46, was sentenced in Colorado to life in prison without parole plus more than 2,000 years after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and over 100 additional charges for a 1 June, 2025 firebombing attack on demonstrators supporting Israeli hostages in Gaza. Soliman threw two Molotov cocktails into the crowd on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall, killing 82 year-old Karen Diamond and injuring more than a dozen others.

    Prosecutors said Soliman arrived with 18 Molotov cocktails, disguised himself as a gardener, and shouted “Free Palestine!” during the attack. Victims described lasting trauma, and the Jewish community said the assault left many fearful of attending public events. In court, Soliman apologized but denied anti-Semitic intent, claiming he opposed Zionism; he urged federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in his separate hate-crime case.

    Diamond’s family described her three weeks of suffering before her death, and the Boulder Jewish Community Center said the sentence sends a clear message against hate-fueled violence. Soliman’s federal case remains pending, where prosecutors allege he targeted victims because of their perceived connection to Israel.

    ISIS “Beatle” El Shafee Elsheikh denied request to transfer from US supermax to UK prison

    El Shafee Elsheikh, 38, a former British citizen and member of the ISIS hostage-taking cell known as “The Beatles,” has been denied his request to leave a US supermax prison and serve his sentence in the UK The US Department of Justice blocked the transfer, and Elsheikh remains under eight life sentences for his role in the kidnapping and murder of Western hostages.

    Elsheikh’s group was responsible for the 2014-2015 beheadings of aid workers and journalists, including David Haines, James Foley, Steven Sotloff, and Peter Kassig. Families of victims, including Haines’s daughter Bethany, said it was a “relief” that Elsheikh will not return to Britain, noting he had his U.K. citizenship revoked in 2018.

    Elsheikh is currently held at the ADX Florence supermax in Colorado. Prosecutors and counterterrorism officials have called the case one of the most significant ISIS prosecutions, highlighting the brutality of the cell and the impact on victims’ families.

    Michigan man sentenced to 20 years for attempting to support ISIS and possessing a destructive device

    Aws Mohammed Naser, 38, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of attempting to provide material support to ISIS and possessing a destructive device. Prosecutors said Naser tried twice to travel to Syria to join ISIS and considered himself a “soldier of the Caliphate.”

    Evidence showed Naser had been radicalized for years, posting extremist content, communicating with jihadist associates, and researching weapons and explosives. After returning from a 2012 trip from Iraq, he continued consuming ISIS propaganda and attempted two separate overseas departures before being stopped each time. He later renewed his allegiance to ISIS while on parole.

    In 2017, the FBI found a bomb-making lab in his Michigan basement, including precursor chemicals for a TATP-based IED, drones, and tools. Prosecutors said the sentence reflects the seriousness of supporting a foreign terrorist organization and the threat posed by Naser’s continued efforts to aid ISIS.

    Teen who plotted ISIS-inspired attack on Phoenix Pride sentenced to 1.75 years

    Marvin Aneer Jalo was sentenced to 1.75 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of terroristic threats. He received credit for 599 days served, meaning he will serve only the remainder of that term. He was 17 when he was arrested in October 2024 at the start of Phoenix LGBTQ+ Pride festivities.

    Investigators said Jalo discussed making TATP explosives, posted videos of himself mixing ingredients, and talked online about using a remote controlled bomb during Pride events. He also ordered chemical components and exchanged messages about attacking various targets, including in New York City.

    Prosecutors argued he had followed ISIS-style attack methods, while his defense claimed much of the online activity was exaggerated talk. The 2024 Phoenix Pride Parade proceeded safely under heavy police security.

    Peoria teen sentenced for ISIS-inspired plot targeting Phoenix Pride parade

    Marvin Aneer Jalo, 18, was sentenced to 1.75 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of terroristic threats for planning an ISIS-inspired attack on the 2024 Phoenix Pride Parade. Arrested at 17 and charged as an adult, he received credit for 559 days already served.

    Prosecutors said Jalo discussed building a “bomb drone” and placing TATP and C-4 explosives around buildings before using a remote-controlled device once crowds fled. They argued he was following an ISIS video and had not abandoned his intent to “become a jihadi.”

    His defense claimed the online chats were mostly talk and that the alleged explosive mixture was more of a “science experiment.” The parade proceeded safely in 2024 with heavy police presence.

    Minneapolis man sentenced to 8.5 years for attempting to join and support ISIS

    A federal judge sentenced Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 23, to 102 months in prison and 15 years of supervised release for attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Prosecutors said Hassan spent 2024 consuming ISIS propaganda, reposting violent videos, downloading bomb-making manuals, and researching weapons, drone technology, and past ISIS-inspired attacks.

    Court records show Hassan communicated extensively with ISIS recruiters in Somalia and, in December 2024, quit his job, emptied his savings, and bought a one-way ticket to join ISIS on the battlefield. He was stopped twice, first at Minneapolis St. Paul Airport for lacking propr documents, then in Chicago by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents who found he was carrying only his identification papers. Hassan admitted he supported ISIS and rejected democracy.

    After returning to Minnesota, he continued praising ISIS attacks online, including a 2025 mass-casualty attack in New Orleans. He was arrested in February 2025 with a knife and a homemade ISIS flag in his vehicle. Officials said the sentence removes a “would-be terrorist” from the community and reinforced that attempts to join foreign terrorist groups will be aggressively prosecuted.

    Court upholds life sentence for Times Square bomber but tosses ISIS-support charge

    A federal appeals court kept the life sentence for Akayed Ullah, who tried to carry out a suicide bombing in a times Square subway tunnel in 2017. His device barely exploded, injuring him and a few bystanders, but judges stated that the attack was still “barbaric” enough to justify life in prison.

    The court did overturn one conviction- providing material support to ISIS- saying Ullah acted entirely on his own and wasn’t directed by the group, even if he claimed he did it “on behalf of ISIS.” A dissenting judge argued the jury had enough evidence to keep the charge.

    All other convictions remain, so Ullah stays sentenced to life. The ruling comes as New York deals with several recent ISIS-inspired cases, including two teens charged last month with bringing explosives to a protest.

    Chicago man sentenced to 25 years for supporting ISIS through an online propaganda network

    Ashraf Al Safoo, 41 years-old, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for conspiring to provide material support to ISIS through his leadership of the Khattab Media Foundation, an online group that pledged allegiance to ISIS. Prosecutors said Al Safoo used social media to encourage attacks on ISIS’s enemies, recruit supporters, and distribute propaganda promoting violent jihad.

    Court records show Al Safoo coordinated directly with ISIS to produce threats, videos, essays, and infographics celebrating terrorist attacks and urging “lone wolf” operations in Western countries. He instructed members to “participate in the war, and spread terror” and amplify ISIS content across online platforms. Al Safoo immigrated to the U.S. in 2008 and became a naturalized citizen in 2013.

    Following a bench trial, he was convicted of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation, transmitting threats, and unauthorized computer access. Judge John Robert Blakey imposed the 25-year sentence, followed by ten years of supervised release. Federal officials credited the FBI’s Chicago Field Office and the Justice Department’s National Security Division for the investigation.

    Tennessee man pleads guilty to arson and attempting to support Hezbollah

    Reagan Darby Prater, 28, of Tullahoma, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to arson and attempting to provide material support to Hezbollah. Prosecutors say Prater used a napalm-based “sparkler bomb” to destroy a building at the Highlander Center in New Market, causing over $1.2 million in damage.     Court documents state Prater drove to the Highlander Center, ignited the device, and destroyed the facility as an act of ideological retaliation against the center’s civil rights focused mission. Separately, Prater admitted in 2019 he attempted to aid Hezbollah by providing a document containing personal information of more than 35,000 individuals allegedly linked to the Israeli government, telling a contact he believed was tied to Hezbollah to “Start the hunt.”

    Prater faces up to 20 years in federal prison and will be sentenced 9 September, 2026. The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by the Justice Department’s Civil Rights and National Security Divisions.

    FBI says Michigan synagogue attacker was inspired by Hezbollah

    The attack on a Michigan synagogue earlier this March was a “Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism”, federal officials have said. The FBI said the accused assailant, Ayman Muhammad Ghazali, “purposely [targeted] the Jewish community and the largest Jewish temple in Michigan” and was “inspired by Hezbollah’s militant ideology”.

    Ghazali, a naturalised US citizen from Lebanon, rammed his truck into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on 12 March. Dozens of children were inside the synagogue at the time. Ghazali died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head during the attack. No others were killed but a security guard was injured and multiple officers were treated for smoke inhalation.

    His recovered online activity showed repeated searches for pro-Hezbollah news channels and for queries on large gatherings of Israelis in Michigan, the FBI said in a news conference. His online history over the past months included searches for videos about shootouts and bullets and for “news coverage of an Iranian fatwa for total jihad against the US military”.

    In the days before the attack, Ghazali purchased an AR-style rifle along with 10 rifle magazines and about 300 rounds of ammunition. He also bought fireworks, torch lighters and gallons of gasoline. The day before the incident, he started adding photos to a Facebook album he entitled “vengeance”, including with images of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In a video sent just before the attack, Ghazali said in Arabic that he had booby-trapped his car. He then said: “I will forcefully enter and start shooting at them. God willing, I will kill as many of them as I possibly can”. He also exchanged five short phone calls with his ex-wife, who called police and asked then to do a welfare check on him.
