Jamal Hazrat
Jamal Hazrat was born in Swabi, Pakistan, on March 25, 1977, but was living in Olbia. In 2015, he was accused of being part of a terrorist network close to al-Qaeda and other jihadist organisations, operating between Olbia and Rome under the direction of Sultan Wali Khan. His Facebook profile suggested religious fundamentalism, as he once posted an image of a torn US flag with a quote referring to Prophet Muhammad. He was charged with terrorist association according to Article 270 bis, and Law 4 of March 16, 2006, no. 146.
According to the prosecution, Hazrat participated in fundraising activities in northern Sardinia and was also involved in the transfer of money to Pakistan under the direction of Sultan Wali Khan, facilitating the movements of funds that could be related to financing terrorist activities. This occurred in the spring and summer of 2009, when Imitias Khan proposed Hazrat to act as a courier to transport money to Pakistan, amounting to about €10-20,000. In September 2011, alongside Ali Zubair and Muhammad Siddique, transported €55,000 on a flight from Rome to Pakistan. Although the prosecution suspected this transfer was for financing terrorism, there was no conclusive evidence, and it was suggested that the money might have been related to Sultan Wali Khan’s legitimate business activities. Moreover, once arrived in Pakistan, it had not been possible to prove that the money went to fund a terrorist organisation because all traces of the funds were lost.
Moreover, according to accusations, Hazrat had also significant links to the Taliban, as conversations with Ali Zubair and Muhammad Siddique of June and August 2010 seemed to reveal important information known only to those close to the terrorist association.
In February 2015, at the time of the execution of the precautionary custody order, Jamal Hazrat was untraceable.
