Ali Mohsin
A serious prosecution framework towards Ali Mohsin, a Pakistani citizen born on October 23, 1995, has been delineated by the Tribunal of Genova. Mohsin is one of fourteen individuals under investigation for having breached art. 270 bis comma 2 c.p. of the Italian Criminal Code, having promoted, set up, organised and managed an association for the purpose of terrorism.
Evidence dated back to 2019 and 2020 links Mohsin to Gabar, as a TikTok video of December 19, 2019, showed Mohsin with Nadeem Raan, Umer Noman, and Waqas Butt. His friendship and camaraderie with Gabar members continued to be manifested throughout 2020 and 2021 through videos, photos, and expressions of appreciation on various social media channels, proving Mohsin’s closeness to and involvement with Gabar and its leaders as well as his adherence to the group’s ideals. These videos and photos showed Mohsin wielding weapons and hugging other members such as Nadeem Raan, and sometimes were accompanied by sinister and prescient writings that revealed the violent nature of the group. Moreover, the judge’s decree confirms Mohsin’s closeness with the Paris attacker, Zaheer Hassan Mahmood, even before the event took place: Mohsin is among those individuals who took part in the meeting dated January 5, 2020, alongside Zaheer Hassan Mahmood, Hamza Ali, Umer Noman, Raza Irslan, Waqas Butt, Nadeem Raan, and Ali Ahsan. The meeting was well documented by Mohsin himself, having shared three videos with great evidential value on his TikTok profile. Mohsin nicknamed the meeting as that of “Peer’s men” (alias of Nadeem Raan) and the aforementioned individuals are seen with weapons while talking about future plans with threatening attitudes while another video contains a poem which incites to martyrdom. These videos confirm that the Paris attack was not an impromptu incident but a planned event of Gabar.
Mohsin, who lived in Italy until November 2020 as revealed by his phone records, would travel from France to participate in the meeting in Fabbrico from September 2 to 5, 2021. Moreover, the day of the Paris attack, September 25, 2020, Mohsin reacted to a photo of Zaheer Hassan Mahmood shared by Irslan Raza on Facebook with a heart and a comment sharing support. Finally, Mohsin’s involvement with and role within Gabar is confirmed by his photo in the manifesto, published by Mohsin himself on his Facebook profile on June 19, 2020. In Gabar’s organisational chart, Mohsin is a constituent and appears in the cover page of the Facebook page.
Once arrested, Mohsin asked for a shortened proceeding and was put on trial on July 12 and 13, 2023 while the judge’s ruling was scheduled for September 18, 2023.
He was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the court of Genoa at the end of March 2024.
