Nadeem Raan

The evidence that incriminates Nadeem Raan is substantial and clearly delineates his affiliation to Gabar in a leadership position. Raan, also known as Peer, is a Pakistani man born on November 18, 1989, who had been detained in the French Villepinte prison until February 4, 2022. A phone conversation with Tahir Yaseen dated August 11, 2021, reveals that he would have traveled to Italy to do “all kinds of things” as soon as he had been released. His Facebook post dated February 18, 2022, with the caption “Gabbar is back” is thus not a coincidence. During other conversations, it is revealed that Raan had spent time in Italy during 2018 and 2019, he is well respected among the group and is an influential person in Pakistan with important connections. He even carelessly discussed with Yaseen the possibility of purchasing weapons while recruiting members and establishing Gabar cells in Spain and Italy.
As indicated by the Italian investigators, Raan’s presence and activity on social media confirms his prominent position within the network. The oldest evidence of his friendship with other Gabar members dates back to 2019, as various videos and photos on TikTok and Facebook showed him with Waqas Butt, Ali Mohsin, Umer Noman – who calls Raan his “brother”- and Irslan Raza. Various weapons were often wielded and these social media posts were frequently accompanied by sinister captions. Evidence also reveals that Rizvan Ali Warrich, an individual arrested in Spain on terrorism charges, was also one of Raan’s Facebook friends. Moreover, Raan created the Facebook page Gabar Group France and appeared in the Gabar and Gabar Greece’s manifestos shared on Facebook as the main leader, and he often referenced Gabar King Group in his Facebook captions alongside allusions to the violent use of weapons. Finally, on January 5, 2020, Raan published a TikTok video of a meeting which happened on the same day. The meeting was attended by the key and most prominent members of Gabar such as Zaheer Hassan Mahmood, Hamza Ali, Umer Noman, Raza Irslan, Waqas Butt, and Ali Ahsan. The video corroborates Raan’s prominent role within the network, as he was the meeting’s leading figure and main speaker.
It thus emerges that Nadeem Raan is Gabar’s group leader and the head of all the regional branches, promoting initiatives and activities while supporting Tahir Yaseen in the creation of the Italian cell. He was arrested in France and investigated by the Italian police for having breached art. 270 bis comma 2 c.p. of the Italian Criminal Code, having promoted a network, Gabar, for the purpose of terrorism. Once arrested, Raan asked for a shortened proceeding and was put on trial on July 12 and 13, 2023 while the judge’s ruling was scheduled for September 18, 2023.
