Noman Akram

On May 4, 2022, the investigating magistrate of the Tribunal of Genova ordered a precautionary measure consisting of a pre-trial detention for Noman Akram, under investigation for having breached art. 270 bis comma 2 c.p. of the Italian Criminal Code, having promoted a network, to which he was an associate, for the purpose of terrorism. Akram, born in Pakistan on June 9, 1999, was arrested in Florence on June 6, 2022, and at that time was a construction worker living in the San Lorenzo neighborhood.
Although Akram’s ties with Gabar appear to be scarce from the judge’s decree, his whereabouts are significant and do not appear to be a coincidence, particularly in the days before the Paris attack. On September 18, 2020, Akram left Pisa airport headed to Paris and three days later he published a video on his social media channels shot in Le Havre in which he was with Raza Hassan, Babar Ali, and Tahir Yaseen. The day before the Paris attack he went back to Italy alongside Yaseen.
Akram’s friendship with Yaseen has been highlighted by police evidence, as when Yaseen was released from prison he returned to Italy on April 19, 2021, and spent a couple of days in Florence with Akram and his brother. Moreover, on November 16, 2021, Akram traveled to Yaseen’s house in Fabbrico alongside Babar Ali and Iqbal Nasar and the same individuals would later visit Akram in Florence. Therefore, although there is no formal acknowledgement of Akram’s position within Gabar, there is substantiate suspicion that he breached art. 270 of the Italian Criminal Code. All evidence points at his questionable behaviour, as he clearly shares Gabar’s violent ideals while promoting and supporting the network’s terrorist plans. Once arrested, Akram asked for a shortened proceeding and was put on trial on July 12 and 13, 2023 while the judge’s ruling was scheduled for September 18, 2023. In October 2023, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for inciting crime by spreading videos and messages on social media.
